| It makes the game more exciting when there’s a real chance of it happening. |

Nope.
Look at any good war movie...Extras and Allies get hit by random shells and such, but heroes only die if the incoming round happens to "have their name on it" (i.e., it furthers the story).
I view all RPGing as nothing more than telling a ripping good tale -- if a PC death furthers the story, then so be it' otherwise, they somehow avoid dying until it's more appropriate to the story.
If I want a simulation, I'll breal out my 15mm minis. |
Not in Vietnam movies and books, well, mostly books. Any other era of War, I totally agree with you, JB. |
Name one Vietnam-era movie or book where a main character dies without serving a dramatic purpose -- and movies and books based on "real events" don't count. |
Well, since they are fiction, the deaths are made to be dramatically appropriate, but still show the randomness of death in war. The novelization of Hamburger Hill and and the book The Fire Dream. Both are pretty good books, set in different times during the conflict. _________________ David Sumpter
