Crush Depth

Genre: Hard SF, Post Apocalyptic, Pirates

In 2212 the nations of Earth are embroiled in World War Terminus. After years of stalemate one side tries to achieve decisive victory with a new weapon that will use the planet’s magnetosphere as a massive energy attack against their enemies, but something goes horribly wrong. The atmosphere becomes “excited” producing a perpetual dynamic release of energy. The icecaps melt, flooding about a third of the landmass, and the superheated oceans cause the entire surface to become one huge never-ending hurricane.

Colonies on terraformed Mars are cutoff, barely able to communicate with home. They are able to "drop" back on earth, but "uplift" off earth is impossible due the never-ending, all encompassing storms.

Humanity on Earth survives by going under the waves. Using underwater domed cities, submarines, kelp farming, and bioengineering civilization carries on. City-states form the major political entities, and there submarine pirates raiding outposts, and cargo subs.

It’s a dangerous world out there. A leak at 5,000 feet will ruin your whole day. And remember… Where there is air, there is life.

Twilight 1945
Genre: Post Apocalyptic, Weird War

On the eve of 1945 both the Nazis and the U.S. possess six atomic weapons each.

On December 16, 1944 the Nazis launch Operation Racheengel by dropping atomic weapons on London, Moscow, Liege, Soviet units advancing on Warsaw and Krakow, and New York (specifically New York Harbor delivered on a suicide mission via a submarine piloted by a crew of S.S.).

Though taken by surprise the allies push up their planed atomic strikes from January 2, 1945 to December 17, 1944, with bombs dropped on Berlin, Cologne, and German units advancing on Bastogne. Saving their last three weapons as an ace in the hole.

In early hours of December 18 the Germans attack along the Western and Eastern Fronts with biologischen kampfstoffe 909, a bio-agent with the unforeseen and unfortunate side effects of reanimating it’s victims, and which is communicable though blood and saliva.

Europe is in the middle of the worst winter in memory. With the high commands of both sides in disarray, supplies and logistics completely wrecked, and hordes of fallen soldiers and civilians walking the villages and countryside, the U.S. and the U.K. have abandoned main land Europe. Acting Supreme Allied Commander General Patton issues general order #514… “All Allied forces make for port of Calais by all and best possible means for evacuation”.

One thing is for sure… it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Home Front

Genre: Hard SF

By 2150 humanity finally had its act together. Armed conflict was a concept relegated to the past. Advances in medicine and bioengineering had led to the eliminations of most diseases, life spans that reached 130 years plus, and crop yields that were sufficient to wipe out world hunger. To alleviate overcrowding we even had colonies on Luna, and terraformed Mars… a blue Mars (well… a bluish purple Mars).

And then “THEY” came… an alien race calling themselves the Joth. They arrived in a colony ship made from a hollowed out asteroid, and settled in orbit above the Earth. For seven days humanity attempted communication with the aliens, only to be answered by one telepathically transmitted message that was received by every human on earth “WE ARE JOTH… SURENDER!”

Immediately following this communication their first wave of attack consisting of a meteorite bombardment. The meteorites, though they burned up in the atmosphere, released a biological agent that infected and contaminated the food chain and water supply. It seemed that it was engineered specifically for humanity. No other organism was affected, excepted to act as a vector. The Earth was poison to most of mankind. Within a few days 95% of humanity on Earth was dead. The only humans who survived were Inuits, and Laplanders. For reasons unknown they had a resistance to the alien bio-agent.

The second wave involved legions of “janissaries”, genetically engineered slave soldiers and administrators, which set out to isolate the remainder of humanity on earth, and to engineer Earths climate for their masters the Joth.

All the while counter attacks from defense forces from Luna, and Mars were completely ineffectual. On approach our forces were either attacked by freakish creatures that swarmed around the alien “ship”, or by telepathic waves that placed their victims in a catatonic state.

On Earth carbon dioxide levels were drastically increased causing global heating, melting the icecaps. The Earth is now a steamy swamp hothouse, with the only comfortable climates for humans at the poles. Occasionally raids take place to recover artifacts and treasures left behind. Rangers are deployed around in the artic circle to defend and train the few remaining humans left on Earth. All the while The Joth seems content to ignore us. The Governments on Luna and Mars are split on what to do, between liberating Earth and cutting their losses and hoping the Joth will continue to ignore the rest of the solar system.

The Lunars

Genre: Alternate History/Gaslight/Horror

Description:
Most people know that Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of our country, was an inventor, scholar and well-traveled patriot. What most don't know is that he dabbled in secret societies and fringe groups bent on exploring and explaining the supernatural. Most noteworthy of these was The Lunar Society headquartered in Great Britain and comprised of fourteen other historic figures, including Thomas Jefferson and Joseph Priestley. Members of The Lunar Society not only aimed to discover and classify various supernatural entities, it actively sought to capture it. Through the use of strange science, including Franklin's "lightning" rods and armonica (two completely misunderstood inventions), Priestly's chemistry and James Watt's steam powered engines, the group collectively investigated and disrupted what they considered dangerous spectral creatures.

The Low-down
Think "Ghostbusters by Gaslight" meets the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Sprinkle a dash of X-Files to taste. Serve cold.

The Guns of Democracy
Genre: Modern Conspiracy Action

In the streets of Washington D.C., Boston, and Philadelphia two factions wage a secret war for the power behind the throne of the US government- George Washington's thought to be long dissolved spy network, the Culper Ring, and a Illumanati-esque faction within the Secret Service formed by Abraham Lincoln. These two groups have very different plans for the future of the nation and are waging a war of red tape, a war of information, and a war of bullets in back alleys.

Setting: Savage Empires

Genre: Sci-Fi Empire Building

Almost less of a setting per se than an idea for using the rules in a new way. I've been thinking a lot about a stellar empire building game.... something like Birthright in space. Some ideas I've had include a simplified fleet system using slightly modified mass battle mechanics, wild cards as major movers and shakers in your empire, with some rudimentary accounting (pay for your fleets, research, etc with what you get from planets).

So, is this of any interest to anyone? I'm wondering if anyone can be coopted into help me build this little beast... Smile

World or Concept Name: Children of the God of War

Genre: Supernatural Superheroics

Description:

Introduction

On July 16,1945 -- near Alamogordo, New Mexico -- the United States tested the first atomic bomb. The event was a landmark: the human race had finally gained the ability to destroy itself.

However, something else happened on that day. Something that wasn't noticed, but was perhaps just as momentous as the bomb itself. The bomb -- like any of Man's creations -- reflected part of the human soul. And for all of the atomic bomb's modernity, the part of humanity that it represented was older than recorded history.

When the first atomic bomb detonated, a call was made to something old and half-forgotten. Something that was sleeping.

It awoke.

And the God of War marched out of the Trinity test site.

**********

Background

Those things that the human race called the gods are not myths. They are incredibly powerful entities that reflect both the good and bad aspects of humanity.

However, gods need worshippers. The gods are truly immortal -- they cannot die. But without human believers, they cannot thrive. So as belief in the old gods waned, the gods fell into a deep slumber. Most of the gods exist in that state to this day, sleeping somewhere on the edge of our understanding of reality.

Of course, some gods are restless sleepers.

Ares, the god of war, was one of the restless gods. After all, while Ares himself was almost forgotten, war itself will always worshippers. That was enough to ensure that Ares was always on the edge of awakening.

The explosion of the first atomic bomb, building upon the carnage of the World Wars, was enough to waken Ares.

So what does a god do when he awakens? Particularly a god who, when you get down to it, is founded on one of the most elemental of human archetypes -- the 'grunt' fighting man?

That's right. He goes looking for chicks and beer.

**********

The Children of Ares

Unknown to most people, Ares has been wandering the globe for almost six decades. His ultimate goals -- if he has any -- are unknown. But he is definitely enjoying his stay on earth. He has particularly enjoyed the many opportunites to get to know the women of the modern era.

From those women, the God of War has begotten children. Those children are demi-gods. And they have powers and strengths beyond those of mortal man.

Unfortunately, they also have enemies.

**********

The Enlightened

The Enlightened are an immensely powerful cabal of powerful liches and their servants/slaves. The Enlightened share a fundamental philosophical belief that the Universe is an empty place. There is no God -- or gods -- and when a human being dies, his 'soul' is lost. It's that belief that led the Enlightened to make the terrible choice to extend their lives by becoming undead.

The existence of demi-god immortals violates that core belief of the Liches. They want to know all about these upstarts. Vivisection is a good place to start.

The Feast of Immortality

There is a spell that's fairly well known amongst mages. It's called 'The Feast of Immortality'. Theoretically, it grants the caster eternal youth. However, the material component of the spell is the still-beating heart of a 'living immortal'. Since the world is (was?) short on 'living immortals', the spell was thought to be spurious or a hoax. But now that there's an actual population of unaging demigods out there...

Well, the opportunity is simply too much for some people to resist.

Jihad

Genre: Weird War, Time Travel

Inspired By: The Final Countdown

During Operation Iraqi Freedom a Marine battalion is advancing north towards Baghdad between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. A freak sandstorm kicks up and lasts though the night. By morning the battalion isn't able to raise anybody by radio, and the GPS isn't working. Nothing is where it should be according to the map, villages are missing, and even the rivers seem to be in the wrong places.

What the Marines don't know is they've fallen back in time and it's 1101 AD (the first crusade after Godfrey of Bouillon has taken Jerusalem).

The PC's can be the Lt. Col. in charge and his company commanders playing out the "Big Picture" of what's happened, or they play a squad or anything in between.

Using the Showdown rules to play out the big stuff, it might seem like they'll get to walk all over the natives, but they've only got so much gas, ammo, and other supplies. Also the locals might not take kindly to the big red crosses on the HMMWV ambulances.

Savage Galaxy

Genre: Soft Sci-Fi, Post Apocalyptic Space

Then…

Humanity spread out across vast parts of the Galaxy conquering, and establishing an empire, which lasted for tens of thousands of years.

“The Empire” consisted of millions of worlds, with hundreds of thousands of sentient life forms, of which humanity was a very small minority (around .00001% of total).

Humanity was able to maintain control of the Empire though various means…

· Aggressiveness – Often acting first and asking questions later, the Empire became known for using draconian measures at even the first hint of rebellion.
· Politics – Many times the Empire would play one species against another, one world against another, and so on. Fomenting distrust amongst groups and allowing them to grow into small-scale conflicts. Then the Empire would choose one side over the other (usually the more subservient side), support them and crush their enemies
· Travel, Communications, and Commerce – The Empire would decide who and who did not have access to FTL drives, and controlled mail routes and FTL message Drones.
· Janissaries – Though a system of “slave” soldiers and administrators (many who were genetically manipulated) from various species, the Empire relied on their “Janissaries” to run the day-to-day operations and bureaucracies.

Eventually, after several millennia of decadence and decay the Empire fell, loosing control of the systems, their many inhabitants, and FTL technology. The subjugated races turned on their former masters.

Now…

Set around five to six thousand years after the fall, Savage Galaxy has a Road Warrior meets Titan AE feel to it. There is no longer a single controlling political force. Many planets have multiple governments or none at all. The largest governed areas are only two to five systems.

Technology has regressed, stagnated, and come back a little since the golden age of the Empire. There are still bits and pieces of lost advanced tech on forgotten abandoned outposts.

Humans are still a very small minority. Some say they are vanishing one. They are not usually trusted and are often held in contempt.

Some notes:

Technology
· STL travel is contragrav and reactionless drives.
· FTL travel is “Star Trek” warp drive with the fastest ships moving at 5 parsecs per cycle (a 24 hour day).
· Communication transmitions are not FTL. FTL communications are made with message drones and “pony express” ships.
· Sensors are not FTL, which makes FTL travel a little risky. Not being able to know for sure what is in front of your ship, but only being able to predict restricts FTL travel to “safe” lanes of traffic. This also makes FTL combat difficult.
· Bionic prosthetics are available, but don’t augment or enhance.
· There sentient droids, and sentient AI’s.

Life and Society

· Tens of thousands of races
· Psionics are common
· Humanity is on the bottom rung
· Slavery is wide spread
· Most places have a frontier, third world, on the edge feel. Occasionally there’s an area where is more civilized and advanced but usually those places are totalitarian and wary of outsiders.
· Most economies are barter or precious metal based (silver, gold, platinum).

EDIT

After running this idea past my better half, she thought that the setting needed something more than just the characters being human in a cruel/savage non-human universe. The characters needed opposing situations for them to be caught between.

We talked about it and came up with idea of the game beginning at the same time as a new oppressive human empire is starting up far away, which is growing and will eventually catch up to characters sector of space.

On one hand the characters live in universe where they are the bottom rung of the ladder, but at least they have freedom. And on the other hand a human empire is coming back. They won't be the bottom rung of the ladder, but only because they'll be oppressed equally with everyone else...

SPQT Senatus Populus Que Terra

For the last twenty odd years there have been rumors of a new Human empire rising from the ashes of the old. Rumors of entire sectors falling in matter of weeks to overwhelming numbers of warships and shock troops. Rumors of whole planets being nuked as examples to those who resist. But these are just rumors, stories told in cantinas and star ports. Some people will believe just about anything if they’ve been in the black long enough.

Name: The Book of the Dead

Genre: Action-Horror

Description: It's a small college town, like many others. However, this town holds a secret. Every few months something will happen. Reports of an attack in a hospital waiting room, corpses missing from the morgue, several people dead. Teenagers having a party while parents are out of town, go down to the basement and die of what is labeled as carbon monoxide poisoning, but since when does that splatter blood all around?

The thing is, this town, your town, is cursed. Something evil came there a long time ago and it's stayed there, changing hands and causing horror wherever it goes. The events that occur when this evil, this book is involved are so bizzare that the local police cannot help a compulsion to try to cover it up, to try to keep the local public sedated. They're all afraid, though they pretend not to be, the locals are. However they dont know what it is they're up against. Most of them are just blind sheep hiding, hoping it never happens to them.

But not you. Your young, your smart, your invincible. Your a teenager. And you know the local legends, the parlor games, the urban myths and the secret words. You know about the paranormal properties of a certain book, and your not afraid. You'll say the words, draw the pentagram, play the game with your friends to prove theres nothing to it. To prove once and for all that theres no reason to be afraid and that the police should start trackign down a serial killer.

But there is a reason to be afraid. Be very afraid.

How long will you survive after you make the biggest mistake of your life?

Inspiration: The Evil Dead, minus the camp and tossing out the Promised One and Army of Darkness bits.

In the Bleak Midwinter

Genre: Post-Apocalyptic Ice-age.

Inspired By: Midwinter by Microplay

Background:
  • 2015 - Assassination attempts on the President of the United States and the Premier of Russia by eco-terrorists. Group identified as the Global Green Army claims they are engaging in 'educational terrorism' to raise awareness of the dangers of global warming and environmental deterioration.

  • 2017 - GGA insurgents release details of a confidential study commisioned by a joint US/Russian task-force, detailing methods of invoking a mini-ice age as a solution to rampant global warming. The study, called 'The Midwinter Report'.

  • 2039 - During a period of intensified political tension, disaster strikes. A tremendous explosion on the eastern border of Burma devastates the surrounding area - buildings as far away as Beijing and Bombay are damaged. For two days, tidal waves of epic proportion slam through the Pacific, flooding much of the west coast of the Americas and much of north-east Africa. Millions of tonnes of dust and dirt are ejected into the atmosphere, covering over half the globe and spreading.

Initial satellite reports of the damage show the devastation caused by the explosion was equivalent to that of a 10 000-megaton hydrogen bomb. Fears of terrorist attack, and the inevitable reprisals, grip the leaders of the world, and a political cold war springs up.

Two months later, survivor reports come trickling in from China, telling of a terrible ball of fire in the sky. Theories of nuclear detonation are debunked due to the lack of radiation.

The world has been hit by an enormous meteorite, the repercussions of which will linger for a long time.

  • 2040 - Russian crops fail due to the fall back to earth of thousands of tonnes of debris and the near-total darkness only beginning to lift. European countries in high-latitudes begin to worry about the temperature drop; Scotland begs for free access to southern England, only to be denied: 'dangerous overpopulation' cited as the official reason.

Trade and tourism declines, causing several Mediterrenean and North African economies to collapse. Religious wars flare up in the Middle-East, inspired in part by increasing difficulty in aqcuiring necessary supplies in spite of the huge wealth of the area.

Australia and New Zealand are deluged by survivors from the Pacific Rim, stretching their resources to the limit.

In North America, hundreds of thousands of Canadians pour into the northern United States, seeking shelter from the dropping temperatures. American civilians take to violently defend their territory from the Canucks; instances of looting and attacks lead to the declaration of Martial Law in several areas.

  • 2045 - Average temperatures in Europe have dropped to 2 C, freezing many major rivers. Scandanavia and many areas in the Pyrenees and Alps have developed huge areas of permafrost and ice.

Attempts to cultivate large areas of Africa are partially successful, leading to a 'land-rush' by developed nations. In the Americas, US troops push into Mexico and South and Central America, leaving behind food crises and freezing lands.

The Russians are squeezed between two fronts - to the north, expanding glaciers, to the south the most ruined areas in Asia. Some manage to escape to Western Europe, causing fierce wars to rage along the Eastern borders of Germany, Austria and Italy. The economies of all countries involved begin to fall apart under the strain of food shortages and military conflict.

As the year draws to a close, the Earth ups the fire-power. South America has, despite the deaths of millions of it's inhabitants, maintained it's population levels as refugees swarmed through Mexico from the US. In December 2045 a massive quake along the Cocos and South American plates is released - the world bucks and heaves for ten days, spewing volcanic dust high into the atmosphere and once again blackening the skies in a cruel reminder of the events which first pluged the world into chaos.

The repercussions of the quake spread quickly, causing dormant volcanoes across Europe and along the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' to erupt. The most specatcular sight occurs at the joint of the African, Eurasian and American plates, 2000 km off the coast of Portugal. Islands from Madiera to the Azores go off like a row of Roman candles. Spots of uncontrollable heat speckle the rapidly freezing globe.

  • 2056 - Temperaturs in London drop to and stay at -25C most of the year. Rainfall across Southern Europe reaches 10m for the year, rapidly freezing and accellerating the formation of ice-sheets. The sea level has dropped by over 500m in places; sheer cliffs exist where beaches had been. The North American ice-sheet extends as far south as Kentucky, the Scandanavian ice-sheet covers Denmark and moves in on Poland and Germany, and in Great Britain, the area above Cheshire is under permanent glaciation.

Billions have died from cold, hunger, disease and war. In the tropics 300 million people live an existence closer to medieval times than the 21st century. Political structures have broken down, as nation states deteriorate to thin-spread communities scavanging for food.

  • 2060 - Worsening conditions lead to the continuing migration toward the Equator. Much of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean is overpopulated, with the shortage of habitable space and food becoming acute. France, Portugal and Spain, particularly, draw thousands of refugees seeking passage to Africa, either by boat or by attempting to cross the rumoured land bridge that is reported to be rising out of the sea in the Straits of Gibraltar.

  • 2060 - The Discovery: In a small coastal town in Portugal, a war-weary group of survivors (including a British engineer, a Scandanavian professor, the family of an Italian boat-owner, an American couple, a French soldier an English nurse, a Danish pilot and a few friends) seek an alternate solution. Using an old plane, they discover a large island 2000 km off the coast of Portugal.

The Azores archipelago, in the wake of the dropping sea-level and volcanic activity, has emerged from the waters; two hundred square miles of habitable land. They secretly decide to head to the island, hoping to build a settlement there, and hoping to take advantage of the geothermal energy to provide their needs.

Six days after the discovery, the mixed group heads out in a trawler called the Lindberg, and after five days on the hazardous seas and forty-foot waves, they make landfall.

  • 2060 - The First Days: After initial landfall, the surivors fall to exploration. They come across an existing settlement, led by a British expatriate and made up of stranded travellers and refugees. After a tense encouter, the existing refugees welcome the new arrivals. The existing settlers have no source of power save fire, and subsist by hunting and fishing.

The two groups merge into a larger settlement of around forty people.

  • 2063 - Exploration of the island and the remains of previous settlements leads to the discovery of a buried factory that had been used to manufacture small-engined bikes (the most common mode of travel in the Azores). More important was the fact that it had it's own undamaged generator.

  • 2070 - The generator allows the survivors the means to develop and implent technology to survive the environment. This year sees the sinking of the first heat mine, which provides electrical power and enables the inhabitants to begin production of facilities to create transport, buildings and arms and to further colonize the island.

Hydroponics bays are developed, new heat mines sunk, new villages constructed, new sights seen. Marriages amongst survivors lead to a growing population, and community leaders help teach youngsters the skills necessary to survival and growth on the island. A string of low-power radio towers connects the out-lying settlements, allowing for quick communication and deployment of services.

Beyond this, the islanders are completely cut off from the mainland, and their only means of returning, the Lindberg, is sunk by an ancient mine while exploring around the island's coast.

  • 2081 - Island population now stands at approximately 500, average age about 12. The youth of the island quickly learn the life-skills necessary for survival and to begin working.

Village leaders organize a health-care system as well as a 'law-enforcement' team. Although the island is peaceful, more people means more feuding and quarrels. The peace force is seen as the best solution.

The equilibrium of the island is disturbed with the arrival of a ship carrying hundreds of people. The vessel was swamped off the coast of the island, and the shipwrecked passengers were met on the shoreline by members of the Peace Force; after the initial confrontation, the settlers offered comfort and medicine. Nearly two-hundred survivors become new settlers to the island. They had been seeking escape from the death and devestation of the Mainland, and had been blown off-course. Europe knew of the islands existence, but deemed it uninhabitable. It had been dubbed 'Midwinter Isle', a name that quickly caught on.

A scientist from Germany in the new group of settlers helped to develop snow buggies for the flatlands and cable cars for hillside travel.

  • 2089 - Over 50 settlements dot the island, each home to families, friends and workmates employed in a dozen heath mines, synthesis plants which produced fuel, and at hydroponics farms and in hunting parties. The Free Villages Peace Force is a friendly, effective policing body.

  • 2095 - Sporadic groups of refugees arrive to the island and are made welcome by the inhabitants. Most of the indiginous population migrate towards the north-west of the island where the volcanic beds were most accessible. As the population grows, the south-east corner of the island houses most of the refugee settlers, whose attitudes seem tainted by their experiences on the mainlands. Feuds and disputes are more commonplace in the region.

Rumours about someone calling himself General Marsters seeking to create an alternative police-force begin to circulate. The FVPF takes a 'hands-off' approach, assuming that so long as Marsters remains where he is, they would let things ride.

  • 2099 - Now.

The PCs can be memebers of the FVPF, or simply islanders trying to get through the day. All the different eras of settlement offer RP opportunities, but the core idea here is the 2099 event.

Radio signals from the south-east have been cut off, but a single exchange has been intercepted and decoded:

Sierra Garcia all quiet. One Peace officer only.

Message Recieved. Operation Snowstorm to proceed as planned
.

It looks like Marsters has decided that he wants to expand.

Players have to deal with cold, fatigue, hunger, and an invasion by a mad would-be dictator. They can travel by foot (ski/snowshoe), buggy, hang-glider, and cable-car, and have access to a few magazines stocked with guns and grenades. Their opponents will be better equipped, better co-ordinated and looking for a fight. Guerilla warfare and rabble rousing, anyone?

The Island

Deadpunks: The Wired West
(a better version, which will be hard to understand for those who aren't up on their Deadlands lore)

The world as we knew it ended in 1999, though most people aren't aware of it. Inspired in part by a popular movie of the time, a faction of Enlightened Martial Artists and Thaumaturgical Diffusionists attempted a ritual on December 31, 1999 to link the collective unconscious of humanity to the Internet in order to achive world peace. This event, later known as the Y2K Event, resulted in massive changes on the spiritual planes, though it went relatively unnoticed on Earth.

Six years later, things have changed. Most of what we Arcane types once called The Hunting Grounds has been warped beyond recognition to a singlular vision of "Cyberspace". Although much of the Internet is still physically located on servers on Earth, there are secret sites that link to physical (or I should rather say spiritual) locations in Cyberspace.

Monsters now hide in every shadow. Many have been around for a long time, while others are twisted variations spawned by the Y2K event. Most people don't recognise them or, if they do, don't beleive in them. This is in part due to the influence the Reckoners now have over the Internet and all global communications. Oh yes, The Reckoners are a very real threat, not just some tabloid fantasy. Their human servants, who we call the plaguebearers, spread their terror far and wide in exchance for empty promises of long life, power or other temptations.

Each of the secret traditions has been affected by this. Hack-slinging Hexers trick viruses and spam-spirits (manitous twisted by the Y2K event) into providing the mojo for their tech-based spells. Overclockers combine knowlege the Tech Spirits have downloaded into their brains with "traditional" Mad Science to modify their own bodies and produce strange new "Sci Fi" devices. Moderators are Blessed who have taken the events of the last few years as a sign from their deities and have expanded their repertoire of miracles to include new ones with a distinctly technological bent. Digimal Shamans befreind the outcast ex-Nature Spirits who were changed almost beyond recognition. The Awakened, a faction of the Enlightened Martial Artists who still want to enlighten mankind, don't want another Y2K event, but swear they've learned from their mistakes and now use their powers in a much less intrusive way.

(Incidentally: the Metal Mages who were involved in the Y2K event? No one knows exactly what happened to them. They're just missing, and this worries everyone who knows enough to understand the significance of it.)

The Arcane folks aren't the only ones fighting the good fight. The Men In Black are sometimes allies, sometimes foes of the secret traditions. The mysterious Infected return from the dead and sometimes are those we once knew but are more often mere mockeries living in the shells of our loved ones. Secret Warriors know of the monsters on their streets and fight to keep their neighborhoods safe. Tabloid reporters now have to be the best in the business to survive what they're reporting on.

The monsters are slowly taking over and it's up to us to stop them. Freedom of information is the key to holding back the waves of fear and paranoia that grip society and feed the evil ones. We will tell the tales once more. 2006 is the year we begin to take back our world.

A Crusade for Al-Hazred

Three hundred years ago England prospered under a legendary King that has long since lied in his tomb. Now Crusaders have brought word of a holy book, stolen and then hidden by the Mohammadian Dogs, the Holy Necronomicon. Within this hallowed book are the sacred prayers that could ressurect the King of old and bring glory and prosperity back to the land. However to retreive the book devout crusaders have to venture into the blasted desert of Al-Hazred where the Arabs sealed away the book in fear of it's Godly righteousness.

This is a pretty screwed up campaign idea- the PC's are crusaders in a unholy, Cthulu type horror filled desert of tombs and death looking for the Necronomicon, which the consider holy.

Meat!

You and your Friends were once Meat. Then you became a Friend. Then you saw the truth and started to search for Meat with your Friends. Thinking has been difficult lately. Speaking has been difficult lately. The Hunger consumes your thoughts until you consume some Meat. Sometimes the Meat becomes a new Friend. Sometimes the Meat fights back and you lose some of your Friends. But there are far too many Freinds for the Meat to win. Meat is to be eaten. Meat will be eaten. Hey, there's some Meat over there! Meeeeeaaaaaaattttttttttttt...

(Zombie? No, "zombie" is a two syllable word. There aren't many two-syllable words that zombies understand.)

This Weird Nation- The Road Wars

The US of A as you know it doesn't exist. In the 1980's the Soviets had themselves a bit of a land invasion, which didn't topple any governments but certainly shook things up. Before you knew it states were seceding and everyone was taking over a bit of the country- the Ruskies, the Mexicans, the Canadians; and that was bad enough without every bunch of rednecks or hippies or Mormons or group of groups declaring their secession from the US government. These days the map is full of strange borders, and theres only one group of people that can cross that borders regularly. Those are the truckers.

The PC's are members of a trucking caravan through the Disunited States of America. They'v got to ship everything from weapons to fuel brush wars to essential supplies for starving people of a newly formed micro-nation, and protect it from road gangs, terrorists, and fascist armies along the way.

However theres still a bit of that old magic left in America, and Americans, real Americans, can tap into that sometimes.

This Weird Nation- Trouble Ops

Also set in the Disunited States of America, however this time the PC's are Troublemakers, mercs not affiliated with any idealogy other than money and that frequently cross borders illegally.

In their occupation the PC's are just as likely to fight Bolshevik guirella forces and radical right wing militia terrorists as they are to rob small town banks or fight the Red Chinese army.

Troublemakers don't have the same mythic quality as truckers, and none of them probably qualify as True Americans able to tap into that old American magic thats still in the land, but on the plus side they have all sorts of guns, gears, and vehicles and (not so) righteously kick ass.

Gangs of America

It all started with Robert Kennedy. The man who had persecuted the mob in a campaign that most likely caused his brother's assasination survived the attempt on his life and was elected President of the United States of America. He was the hardest president on crime in the history of the nation. He survived dozens of attempts on his life, causing him to greaten the gap between himself and the American people. He was the most popular president since FDR and successfully got the term limit repealed and was the president well into the 1980's until he was defeated by Ronald Reagan, who had a stronger anti-Soviet sentiment that resonated with the paranoid populace, and retired from political life.

Reagan, despite being of a different party, loved all the crazy strict laws on crime Kennedy had established and wanted to continue that legacy. He focused on gang violence and made gang membership a potentially capital offense. With the stakes raised cops and gang members started shooting each other on sight.

After addressing the American people in one of his rare visits to the not quite a fortress White House, Reagan and his staff were burned alive and hung by an angry mob numbering in the tens of thousands that smashed the fences and stormed the capital, using trucks and cars with explosives in them to get through the riot cops and national gaurdsmen that were in their way. After burning down the White House most of the mob were gunned down by helicopters and tanks.

This is the America of today. The country is in turmoil. There is no new president. Congress has fallen apart. The Supreme Court had become the leader of both the Justice and Defense department, as well as all the intelligence agencies.

The gangs run the streets. The military blockade the country off from Mexico and Canada yet the drugs and guns still get through. The USSR fell apart by itself and all of their guns, tanks, and helicopters have been bought by either the government or the gangs.

The gangs sell drugs and extort the populace to get money to afford to buy guns to fight the other gangs for more territory so they can sell more drugs and get more money to buy bigger guns so they can defend themselves better from other gangs and the government.

There are hundreds of thousands of gangs, from numbers in the single digits to numbers in the thousands and thousands.

When the police or army go anywhere they do it with tanks and helicopters moving in unison, giving the air raid alarm and shooting anyone on the streets. They've knocked down whole neighborhoods just to destroy a single gang.

Invasion Attack

A very happy welcome to Invasion Attack instluction manual. The year is 1987. You are hot shot pilot of Secret International Protection agency. SIP detecting alien armada in space! President Raygun sending you letter.

Quote:
From: President Raygun
Office of White House
Washingdon CD

Dear SIP Pilot,
Alien invaders threatening peace of Earth! You and your freinds must pilot SIP Ships to repel the threat and restore peace! There is an invasion and attack it is necessary. The time is for Invasion Attack!

Fry with honor.

Sincerely,
President Raygun

P.S. Secret Cheat Code is up, up, down, down, left, right, A, B, start at menu screen.

Utilisingu Savage Worrds rules, the GM puts alien invaders on table. Players move ships and roll dice to destroy alien invaders. Many good exciting action battles! Rasers everywhere! When invaders are destroyed, battle is over.

But rolepraying is needed too! Ships need to refuel between battles. Landing in various places on Earth, Earth colonies, and alien planets, Heroes must need to talk to people and investigate occulences. Peaceful end to conflict may be possible if Heroes save life of alien embassadors and promote peace with wolds as well as raser cannons.

Players are rolepraying excellent Engrish phrases like: "Invaders are to be coming in five minutes! Launch every ship!", "Hostage ship is big one on left! Shoot it not!", "Embassador, perhaps humans and aliens learning to get along with peace. War is not needed. Please invasion be calling off."

Brilliant and extremely clean new Savage Worrds book coming in 1987. Purchase it also for Tanuki Entertainment System. Fry with honor!

Crime America

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The year is 1934, but it is not our own.

Al Capone is the President of the United States of America, Lucky Luciano's National Crime Syndicate stretches from coast to coast, and Salvator Maranzano is the richest man in the country.

The Prohibition was repealed but is still maintained in middle America, such as in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Mississipi. The Dillinger Gang, Bonny and Clyde, and other notorious figures plauge this region, ranging from bank robbers to rural moonshiners. Kidnappings, assassinations, and outright use of mercenaries in political and bussiness dealings are rampant in the region. Despite any federal laws, those states maintain that there citizens can own, carry, buy, and sell any weapons they wish without any restriction whatsoever. The streets may run with blood but at least theyre free of of the subtle vice and corruption eating at the coastal metropoli!

In the East and West coast cities violent vigilantism is common, and all over the nation there are rumours of secret FBI hitsquads given authority to dispense with extreme prejudice.

America is violent; dangerous; corrupt; and riddled with sex, booze, and guns.

Have a nice day.

Star Seed

Genre: Soft Sci-Fi

Earth's Politics & Cultures

By the 23rd century Earth is divided into five major Political Blocs:

NA3 (North American Anglo Alliance)
Capital: Ottawa, Canada
Member States: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States

EU (European Union)
Capital: Brussels, Belgium
Member States: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Germany, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Turkey

MNDP (Moscow/New Delhi Pact) AKA Central Pact
Capital: Kiev
Member States: Belarus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, and Ukraine

APC (Asia Pacific Coalition)
Capital: Honolulu, Hawaii
Member States: Alaska, California, China, Hawaii, Japan, Mexico, Thailand, United Korea, and Vietnam

UPE (United Peoples of Earth) AKA Southern Bloc, AKA Corporate Bloc
Capital: Pretoria, South Africa
Member States: Algeria, Argentina, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Iraq, Honduras, Kenya, Libya, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Paraguay, Peru, South Africa, Uruguay, and Venezuela

Chimpanzees have been uplifted to human intelligence. Only in the UPE do Chimpanzees not enjoy equal rights and are treated as are little more than slaves. Everywhere else they have technically an equal footing with Humans but the reality varies from place to place. Things are getting better for them though.

History

In 2212 the North American Anglo Alliance was the first of Earth’s Political Blocs to achieve Interstellar travel with the Jump Engine. Their Monopoly did not last long as the other Political Blocs soon gained interstellar capability.

Of the first few systems that we came across, some would support human life, but none held any intelligence. Then in 2247 we made first contact with another intelligent life form that called themselves Vasta and were at a post-nuclear/pre-interstellar technology level.

The Vasta were extremely Human like. They had two arms, two legs, five digits on each appendage, and every thing in human proportions. The major difference between Vasta and Humans was that the Vasta had small brilliantly colored feathers in place of hair and their skin pigmentation was red, blue, purple/violet, or pure black.

After Humanity and Vasta got over the initial shock of first contact they began an exchange of information and culture. Then came a bigger shock than the first... the discovery that Humans and Vasta were genetically identical. The differences in appearance were only due to introns activated in different sequences. This combined with the fact that an ancient Vasta civilization dating back more than 5,000 years used a system of writing very similar to cuneiform brought up some extremely interesting questions. Further similarities between the two worlds like pyramids, technological advancements occurring at roughly the same time, and historical reports of UFOs with gray large eyed aliens brought about the controversial theory that Humanity and Vasta had been “seeded” on their respective planets.

In 2261, contact with a race that had recently developed interstellar travel, that looked like Earth humans, and which were also genetically identical to us made the “Star Seed” theory a lot less controversial. By 2283, 22 systems have been contacted with Vasta, 24 with Humans (3 of which had telepathic humans) and 19 with humanoids that appear to be genetically identical to Neanderthals of Earth’s past. All possessed Post-Nuclear or Proto-Interstellar technology.

It’s now 2306. Earth is still divided up into Political Blocs, interstellar trade and cultural exchanges are commonplace and despite some differences and close calls there haven’t been any interstellar wars. But who knows how long that will last. With 65 worlds now colonizing uninhabited planets there are bound to be a few misunderstandings, and eventually even some colonies will want independence from their parent worlds. It’s an exciting new future.
