Well I wouldn't call it "unique" but the templar in my game wears his tabard all the time, but under his coat/shirt/Kevlar .. etc...
This lets him reveal himself in a dramatically "Clark Kent" sort of way _________________ Cheyenne Wright

Okay, that instantly brought this scene to mind...
Templar: "Don't worry about these scum. For I have deemed you worthy, and you are now under the protection of..." <rips off Kevlar vest to reveal tabard> "The Templar!!!"
Gang Member: <shoots Templar in now-unprotected chest>
Templar: <looks at hole in chest and falls over dead>
<beat>
Gang Member: "Dibs on the vest."

Ah, clint, don't you know that Armor of the Saints exists for reasons such as that?
Anyways, my templar only really wears the tabard when he's on the clock. The only tactic that I have set up that's somewhat unique is when the rest of the posse wants to save an unworthy town. Effectively, because the people in the posse are helping others, the posse is worthy, so while I'm not going to be helping them save the town, i'll mostly just provide healing and a small amount of support for the posse. It's a very thin line, but at least the posse won't be as pissed off at me. _________________ Highlander was a documentry, and it was filmed in real time! |

My group's Templar (Who lasted all of five sessions) took off his tabbard only when going into a town. The Posse knew who he was, why hide.
Templar: "Die Evil Minion of Satan!!!"
Me: "But they're innocent by-standers, and you bloody well know that..."
Templar: *Thinks for a beat* "Die Innocent By-Standers of Satan!!!" _________________ "Grab a wackin' stick, boy! Time to learn these here undead some manners!" - Percy Spencer, to his Son, Kevin. |

Another option would be to use the greater reward of the disguise power. If you really wanted to, you could probably hide a lot more than a kevlar vest under the tabard that way. _________________ There is no sig file that seems witty after 50 posts. |

The Templar in my game was the only survivor of an ill-thought out attempt to attack a Black Hat road gang, and he took one point of damage short of a Maiming wound to the noggin', and passed out due to associated Wind loss. I ruled that when he woke up, road scum had stolen tabbard and sword, boots and gun, and he had a case of complete amnesia. He wandered into a settlement, got into a new posse, and has full access to any "passive" Templar powers of his, but not the more active ones.
So the short answer is that Gene *never* wears his tabbard. _________________ Your mileage may vary.

In S-SWAT, we had Travis. Dumber than a box of hair. Think former NFL linebacker size guy with swords strapped all over him. He got a plastic canvas tabard so the guys could hose him off after they stomped the monster. _________________ Plimba-te pe la ferma, cara fructe cu remorca, fereste zapada si joaca jocuri tractoare de cele mai noi. |

A (now deceased) Templar from my HOE campaign had a revesable tabard with one side covered in sack cloth and the other side the traditonal white, he'd change it over at the the most aporporate time for the previously mentioned Clark Kent Effect. _________________ I met Joan on Monday,

As for tactics, what method does your Templar choose his rewards?
So far, my powers are
Lay on hands: 2
Armor of the Saints: 3
My plans:
Get protection of the saints
up armor of the saints
Get the power for disguising
Get power to survive without food
After that, I don't know how else to up my rewards. _________________ Highlander was a documentry, and it was filmed in real time! |

Yup, they sure have. I like to see Templars as old, wise an' intimidating, a bit like a Dark Santa Claus who knows he's cause, wearing white tabard and holdin' one's grip on the handle of a really cool-looking sword.
They are usually called as Noah, and they keep their beggar-gear on within city-limits...
Kinda like Väinämöinen from our beloved Kalevala, which was admired even by Tolkien. And Keno Don Rosa, he like's it too. You should read it if you ever get the chance... _________________ "Mal... Bad. In latin." |

My templar met the syker, revealed himself, was used as bait to get into the town where the bad guys were, got himself and the Syker killed, hung outside the church where we fought before, and came back Harrowed. So in short, only been outta the tabbard once. _________________ Flag:So what do you have there torchy?

So far, there's two Templars in my group, and at the moment, neither of them are aware of each other. Once one of us throws off the tabard it's gonna be an awkward moment.
But i do enjoy my loophole around the test of worth i plan on using. _________________ Highlander was a documentry, and it was filmed in real time! |

Oh, please, pretty please, if there be no chance of your players finding out, tell us this "test of worth" thing... I find myself intrigued. _________________ "Damn punk Reckoners!"

My loophole is simple: I'm not supposed to help the unworthy. Well, the party is helping people who need help, so they're worthy. Essentially, i only assist my party by giving aid to them, NOT helping them kill monsters, but by giving advice, carrying things and patching them up. It's a fine line I'm not gonna cross. _________________ Highlander was a documentry, and it was filmed in real time! |

one templar constantly pulled the "Clark Kent". bout three or four times a session. thing is he never said he covered the tabbard up again.... in that same group we also had a junker who pulled the same trick using a tabbard he swiped of a dead templar they were looking for before the other templar saw. he kept it until that certain adventure with all those Anti-templar. the tempalr was in serious trouble, so the junker distracted the AT's by making them think he was a templar also.
our other templar in another group "clark kent"ed but only when dramatically appropriate. he also carried his sword in an acoustic guitar case witha collapsable flap so he could just reach in and grab it. _________________ ***LOADS OF NEW DESIGNS!!***

Riiiight...
Say, isn't this kind of like the "loophole" used by a guy named Brad when he fought with the Black Hats against a road gang? "I'm not really helping this guy; I'm helping this other guy, but that guy just happens to benefit too."
If a Templar tried pulling this kind of semantics on Simon or Jo in my game, they would be in for a dressing down like you've never seen.
"Your sworn duty is to protect the worthy to the best of your ability! You don't do that by aiding those who protect the unworthy! That doesn't make them worthy... just stupid! They're wasting their talents trying to save the weeds of the world while the crops are burning! And you're giving them water while ignoring the smoke behind your back!"
Actually, that could be kind of cool. _________________ Clint Black
