As nice as all Cheyenne's sheets are (and they are), I find the little dice pictures to shade in just annoying and awkward and always stick a box over the top in Acrobat. WHat do other folks think?

For the life of me i don't know why dice pictures were ever even considered for SW character sheets. As Shane has mentioned, "Fast, Furious, Fun" sounds great, but the real standard is "simple, easy, fun." Dice pictures are the antithesis of this philosophy because they unnecessarily clutter the sheet and are more difficult to read than a simple "d" followed by a blank line (or circle as in the Deadlands character sheets.)
It could be argued that they're more fun, but they are not the easier, simpler alternative.
Oh, and landscape is yucky too.
Then again, maybe I'm just an old fart screaming at the neighborhood kids to stay off my lawn.
With the exception of the above, i love Cheyenne's character sheets. _________________ Happy Gaming,

looks like I am in the minority vote here,
but I prefer the boxes.
I just don't care for the dice pictures.
But that NE one is Sweet!!! _________________ SlasherEpoch wrote:

I like that NE sheet. Doesn't matter if it has the dices picture on it or empty boxes, what counts is the feeling the char sheet is adding to the setting. For that reason, the char sheets I've seen from cheyenne's art are just right on point char sheets. I have translated some cheyenne's char sheet in french for my group and I must say that the man knows how to catch the setting mood perfectly. Dice pictures, empty boxes, old school self-made sheets, a char sheet is all about capturing the setting mood. That's why I love Cheyenne's sheets. I'm a big fan of Star Trek and I've downloaded the Sheets Cheyenne Wright made for his Savaged Star Trek. There is no more you can add to the sheet. It's 100% Star Trekked for the player to feel what setting he is playing in. Empty Boxes or dices picture are secondary to what the Char Sheet layout and style will help you as a player to play "inside" the setting ambience. _________________ MY SAVAGE QUOTES

Hmmm. I'd like to see some sort of guide for the dice that isn't shaded in or somesuch so that I know what I'm actually looking at in the space of a quick glance.

The boxes make the sheets a little like the White wolf character sheets with the dots... but they're die types which is pretty unique to Savage worlds. It's painfully easy:
No dots: d4-2
1 dot: d4
2 dots: d6
3 dots: d8
4 dots: d10
5 dots: d12
EVERY other RPG (other than the Storyteller/Storytelling system) has plain boxes, man. The die boxes are part of what makes SW stand out. Because they're like the WW sheets, but not.
Get it? Good, because my brain is too tired to explain it better. _________________ "Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!" - Agatha Heterodyne

As much as I enjoy pre-made character sheets (with diece boxes or without), for my campaigns I have to translate most of them into German, so I like them in a format that can be easily edited (.doc or .xls), since I can't afford an acrobat distiller and most sheets are in .pdf-format.
Any hints, anyone? _________________ "You can learn more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."

IMNSHO, functionality and ease of use are just as important as feel - if not more important. The sheets are just too busy and cluttered for my tastes. I prefer a simpler and less graphic layout. Not to say that Cheyenne's stuff isn't great (it is), it's just not my style. My players don't need a character sheet to "get them in the mood", heck, they're the ones that decide what genre/setting we play in! |

I'm in favor of the flavor (hmm, sounds like a good tag line...)
My question is: are you supposed to color in the dice up to the one you roll, or are you supposed to color in the dice you don't have yet, so you can read the ones you do have? |

Call me crazy but I always thought you circled the die type you have in a stat on those sheets.
Oh, and on that NE sheet, where do you put the +bonus for abilities over d12? In the triangular space after the 12? It's a nice overall sheet, but seems to fall down for high-end characters. _________________ Mister Gone

I mentioned that... uh, somewhere to Cheyenne the other day, but now I foget where. (It was probably over in the playtesters group, I guess.) He's going to work on a correction, I think...
...unless people keep complaining about the free character sheets that he's put so much effort into.

But I'm certainly *not* complaining about the sheets. SW has one of the best supported presences on the net, and folks like Cheyenne are why that is the case. The point was to find out what folks think about the SW sheets having dice to shade over a box to write in. If I offended Cheyenne then I hope he will accept my apologies, as the last thing I want to do is to make him think I'm ungrateful for his work. But it is also important to question and comment on things, isn't it?

| I like plain sheets so much that I went and did my own .doc character sheet. It's easier to print out, and seems to me cleaner. |
