While looking for deck plans, I came across this image:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Plan_of_a_7,300_DWT_cargo_steamer.jpg

I noticed that it had a scale for one of the cargo bays, 66 ft., and it clicked that the length of the bay would be 11 inches on the Savage Worlds scale.

So I did it. I resized the image so that the cargo bay in question was 11 inches long, and applied a 1 inch grid using GIMP.

Each main deck, printed out, fills four pages of 11 x 17 paper -- taped together they're around 5 feet long.

I have a little idea of what I'm going to do with them, in Rippers, but I started the project without much of a plan. Just... because I could. Mr. Green

Very nice job!

...but, c'mon, you ain't foolin' me...

That's the Semiramis, skippered by Ponga Jim Mayo. Cool Check out the Smuggler's Hold and Tunnel Escape in the cross-section plan.

Also take a look at this awesome work from Greentongue, who's known to haunt this forum. Very Happy

That's incredible, SGG! Your players should have a great time with that.

BTW, did you save a copy of the file with the resizing and grid applied? I'm sure many people (including me) would love to have a copy.

I'm not sure what the legalities of sharing something like that would be, which is why I'm hesitant to uploaded the gridded images.

Apparently the original image is in the public domain, so does that mean I could legally upload my scaled, gridded version?

Nice work, SGG! More Daring Tales of Adventure than Rippers, but very nice!

(IANALB if the original image is public domain, I think yours would be too.)

There are several more, similar plans -- sidewheelers, mostly -- in the "Line Drawings of Ships" category of Wikimedia.

Yes, public domain means there is no copyright holder therefore it can be shared. However it would be good form not to charge for it.

Oh of course I wouldn't charge for it. I just don't want to mis-attribute anything or cause a legal kerfluffle for myself. Very Happy

Since it is in the Public Domain there isn't anything legally wrong with selling it with your changes. Just like artists who do Classical music. The actual music is Public Domain, but the individual work is Copyrightable still (since it is your performance made permanent).

True, it's a 1910 steamship, which puts it about 20 years after Rippers, but it's close enough for my purposes. Mr. Green
