Hey PEG crew,

I really like and appreciate the new Deadlands minis coming from Reaper - if there's any chance, are the SW minis going to be part of the new Bones line (and the Bones kickstarter)?

And, if the current minis can't be, what're the odds of using the old minis that Jeff Valent Studios used to produce, and having Reaper make them as part of their Bones line?

Thanks,

Bill

Someone asked this in the Pinnacle seminar, and Shane said we'd love it, but it's up to Reaper not us, so anyone who wants them needs to tell Reaper you want those minis in the Bones line.

As a backer on their Kickstarter, I saw several requests for Savage Worlds and Chronoscope (highly compatible with most settings).
With the immense succes Reaper may switch their entire line to Bones, still a little peer pressure never hurt anyone

I'd love to see some Deadlands Bones, but I can see some issues.

The thing to keep in mind with plastic is that the costs are reversed with metal figures figures, the price in materials per figure is greater, but the upfront costs are relatively low. On the other hand, plastic minis have a low cost in materials per figure, but a much higher up-front investment.

So, the first issue is licensing. Reaper can't sell Deadlands figures without the permission of Pinnacle. If Pinnacle eventually withdraws the license, then Pinnacle can't sell any of the Deadlands minis they've produced. Obviously, this isn't insurmountable (see the Pathfinder Minis), but it does mean that Reaper needs a greater investment from the licensing company. This could take a few forms. It could require Pinnacle to pay for part of the cost of the molds (so they're out less money if Pinnacle backs out). Alternately, they could make it much harder for Pinnacle to back out in the first place (thus helping to make sure Reaper keeps selling these for a long enough time to make their money back).

The other issue is the relative narrowness of the range of Deadlands figures Reaper has produced so far. If you compare it to the ones they have for Pathfinder, you'll find there are less than a quarter as many figures. There also are fewer that you necessarily need cheap figures for (you likely don't need to buy multiple Stones, for example).

The first is obviously not a major stumbling block, so long as both companies are comfortable enough with the endeavor, and there's no reason to think it wouldn't be mutually beneficial. The second will fix itself as Reaper produces more Deadlands figures, broadening the range.
