|
|
Since Slipstream came up in the miniatures request discussion, and I thought for sure I'd seen a couple of "space girls" and "space men" in the Chronoscope line, I figured I could check out the Reaper site for possible Slipstream candidates.
Spacers (Earthlings, etc.):
* 50046: Dr. Ervin Friedman, Mad Scientist (works just as well here for a weird scientist as in Deadlands)
* 50061: Professor L.T. Froschmeister, Scientist (works just as well here for a weird scientist as in Deadlands)
* 50068: John Bishop, Space Marshal (armor looks a bit too modern-convention, but the ray-gun pistols and "cowboy-in-space" look seem to fit the tongue-in-cheek retro vibe)
* 50101: Duke Jones, Astronaut (perfect retro-sci-fi astronaut)
* 50107: Afterburn, Superhero (Commando Cody/Rocketeer type, only with rocket boots vs. a rocket pack)
* 50110: Turk, Space Salvager (weapons look too modern, but the outfit and helmet could be passably retro-sci-fi)
* 50115: Moxy, Space Adventuress (borderline; gun looks somewhat raygun-ish)
* 50115: P.B. Pugh, Pulp Hero (perfect, with raygun, torn shirt, and either a skullcap or a Doc Savage haircut)
* 50150: Betty, Space Heroine (perfect, down to the ray gun!)
* 50158: Grant Dillon, Heroic Pilot (perfect if you want to go the Buck Rogers route and stick an Earthman pilot in the Slipstream)
* 50192: Boy Campers (3) (perfect for "space cadet" types ala certain old rocketship serials)
* 50227: Dee Dee, Astro Girl (perfect, complete with rocket pack and ray guns)
* 50260: Xiufang, Femme Fatale (not spacey with that revolver, but an easy conversion)
Queen Anathraxa:
* 14268: Marquise, Overlords Warlord
(suggested by Froggy the Great)
Birdmen:
* 03132: Loftis, Male Angel (with sword/shield)
* 03143: Ithuriel, Female Angel (with sword)
* 03314: Angel of Radiance (with sword/shield, but very pulpy outfit)
* 14080: Guardian Angel, Crusaders Solo (armored birdman/angel with axe)
* 50089: Raptor, Superhero
Coldosites (Vikings, painted with blue skin):
* 02556: Erik Redbeard, Viking
* 02931: Lars Ragnarson, Viking
* 02939: Viking Girl
* 03240: Olaf, Viking Chieftain
* 03384: Ingrid, Female Viking Warrior
* 03385: Amon, Viking Warrior
* 03468: Barbarian Hero
Dracsos (reptile men):
* 50017: Sligg Soldier (reptiloid type with a high-tech gun)
* 50137: Sligg with Thrall Unit (Master Blaster, anyone?)
* 50250: Sligg, Squarg Herder (small reptiloid with gizmo, and a three-eyed alien)
Lionmen (and misc. feline-people):
* 02140: Cleo, Weretigress (female cat-woman, crouching) ++
* 02575: Cleo, Weretigress (female cat-woman, standing) ++
* 02880: Lion Man
* 03344: Children of the Zodiac: Leo (female lion-humanoid; needs clothes painted on)
* 14102: Walking Avatar, Neksokar Monster (female lion-humanoid with exotic weapon ... a bit on the LARGE side as size goes)
* 14510: Daughter of Sekhmet (female lion-humanoid with spear)
* 14513: Chosen of Sekhmet (female lion-humanoid with spear)
* 50095: Kyoko Silvers, Cat Girl (a pretty sad sculpt, but she looks civilized, vs. the typical naked werecat)
* 50259: Mrrowl, Tigerian Merc
++ Suggested by SavageGamerGirl. Needs clothes to be painted on. On the "human-faced with cat ears" end of the anthropomorphic scale.
Levitosians (gray aliens):
* 50130: Gray Aliens (4)
* 50243: Gray Aliens (3)
* 50252: Gray Aliens III (2 + pet)
* 50255: Gray Aliens II (3)
Lupines (wolf men):
* 14591: Handmaiden of Keskura (Werefox Form) (female canid) ++
* 50211: Tommy the Wolf Man
(I realize there are various wolfmen/werewolves in the Reaper line, but I figured I should find "wolfmen" that aren't running around in the buff or nearly so, to pass for civilized aliens.)
++ Suggested by SavageGamerGirl. Unlike typical "werewolf" figures, she actually has smooth skin areas; these can be painted as if she's wearing a sci-fi skin-tight suit.
Primals:
* 50031: Ape-X, Supervillain (not quite right; really needs a space suit)
* 02454: Tonga, Gorilla Man (again, not quite right; needs to have the dead body trimmed off, and a bit of kitbashing, but a possible starting point)
Raptor Men:
* 14475: Raptor
Robot Men:
* 50015: Tool Bots (3)
* 50063: Jeeves, Clockwork Robot
* 50107: Afterburn, Superhero
* 50138: ALF-24, Robot Assistant
* 50246: Marie, She-Bot (evocative of "Metropolis")
* 59015: Savage Worlds Automatons (2)
Sharkmen:
* 03493: Rumscratch, Dwarf Wereshark (Wereshark Space Pirate?)
* 03617: Karkarion Shark Warrior
* 03625: Karnedge Gorefathom, Karkarion
* 03630: Rogal Manystripes, Tiger Karkarion
* 65076: Wereshark
Squelmon:
* 03135: B'thuhl, Bathalian Pirate
* 14511: D'Kuhl, Bathalian
* 50206: Professor Kraken
* 65097: D'Kuhl, Bathalian (different sculpt)
Misc. Aliens:
* 50127: Alien Oppressor
* 50129: Ilyrian Scout
* 50131: Andromedan Vizier
* 50136: Female Andromedan Hunter
* 50144: Alien Overlord with Tracker
* 50171: Dr Dread, Supervillain
* 50172: Alien Overlord with Pistol
* 50197: Alien Overlord Boss
* 50220: Empress Messalina IV of the Andromedans (perfect green-skinned alien queen archetype)
* 50241: Sparg, Ilyrian Agent (gun looks too modern, but works for a goofy alien)
* 50262: Rhinocerix, Super Villain
Gizmos/Gadgets/Guns:
* 50025: Futuristic Weapons (No distinct "ray guns," but a good starting point for conversions)
* P50165B: Sprue (Boneyard: wrench/arm and boiler pack that can be inverted for a clunky rocket-pack)

What's a good mini for Queen Anathraxa? _________________ "Games give you a chance to excel, and if you're playing in good company you don't even mind if you lose because you had the enjoyment of the company during the course of the game. "

Look at Betty up above.
Anathraxia really isn't special looking. She's just an insanely good looking, evil, humanoid. |

Don't forget www.hydraminiatures.com
Fairly cheap and affordable minis.
Rockets for space, Plenty of Pulpy Humans, and Robot men, some aliens, and an entire race of "Evil women in tight pants"
Lacking severely on the "Manimals" front though. |

BUMP!
Sorry, wanted this closer to the top!
BTW, I think this should be stickied, too!
She might be alien and all, but I think Empress Messalina IV of the Andromedans is perfect for Anthraxa!
[See above; misc. aliens]

I'd also recommend checking out Froggy the Great's "misc. sci-fi" gallery on DeviantArt. It has quite a few Reaper miniatures turned into great sci-fi characters, quite a few of them suitable for Slipstream, converted in ways I likely wouldn't have imagined on my own.
And for ray guns? Beads and paper clips. PURE GENIUS! _________________

Found one of these in the .25 bin at one of my FLGS today:
It's a "Jack of Blades" figure from the now defunct 'Dreamblade' game from WotC.
Damn near PERFECT Stygian, methinks! _________________ DAVROS: ‘Tar Lubek Ka’leed, Uth Ricta Dal’ek.’ Roughly translated, it means: ‘And on that day, men will become like gods.’ (I, DAVROS: GUILT) |

These...

But where's the power armor! And the laser swords!
For Anathraxa clones, they're great, but for the handmaidens? Not so awesome.
I'd probably use them for Valkyrie shock troopers and allies. Or for clones (with a number painted onto the forehead). _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Personally, I don't imagine the handmaidens clad in something like 40k armor, myself... If anything, they have a shield-generating belt, but I don't think out-of-proportion bulky space armor is fitting with the 1930s Hollywood serial feel of the game, myself. Obviously YMMV. _________________ DAVROS: ‘Tar Lubek Ka’leed, Uth Ricta Dal’ek.’ Roughly translated, it means: ‘And on that day, men will become like gods.’ (I, DAVROS: GUILT) |

Who said anything about 40K? I was thinking more along the lines of Bubblegum Crisis. Though pulp power armor usually looks a lot more like the first than the second of these pictures.

Of course the illustrations of the handmaidens (like the ones on the figure flats) show little more than red and white outfits with kneepads, shoulder pads, a visor of some kind and an exposed midriff. _________________ DAVROS: ‘Tar Lubek Ka’leed, Uth Ricta Dal’ek.’ Roughly translated, it means: ‘And on that day, men will become like gods.’ (I, DAVROS: GUILT) |

I've seen the weretigresses before, but left them out because they not only looked pretty "wild" (nekkid), but also because they appear to be "human face, cat ears" types of werecreatures, rather than "lion-headed" as Lionmen seem to be ... but then, I suppose one can get away with a bit of artistic license, and there seem to be plenty of OTHER feline-humanoids in the Slipstream, so I modified the category to be Lionmen *and other* cat-people that might fit in Slipstream.
Also, good point on the Werefox; I saw "naked werecreature," but I failed to realize that since this particular werecreature was portrayed with SMOOTH skin on the body (yet a hairy head and hands/feet), that lends itself quite well toward simply painting those areas as if she's wearing a jumpsuit - which should work perfectly for Slipstream. _________________

Ah. Having never picked up the figure flats, I was unaware of that.
Objection retracted, though I'm generically dissatisfied. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."
