I have a player in the Ragnarok setting who has a Marconi gun. He wants to use it to shoot a vehicle, and do electrical damage to all inside the vehicle (it is a troop transport truck).
I think the marconi gun could take advantage of the electric and heat/fire trappings, but extending the damage to everyone in the vehicle seems to make the gun work with area effect, which it doesn't have.
I welcome comments on marconi guns and how they've been handled in other peoples games.
Thanks! |

They're inside the vehicle? then the vehicle will protect them from the electricity as it won't have a path to ground through them. _________________ My Blog of Random Gaming: http://www.daemonstorm.com

In the pulp setting Serpent Empire the Tesla Gun fires an electric arc that has a chance of jumping to the next largest/closest source of metal once the first target is down. Sort of like a Fantasy chain lightiing spell from the spelljammer PC game that could kill your own crew to they are are in line with the enemy _________________ http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h51/Vondan/ |

I was under the impression that the Marconi gun was a sort of microwave weapon. Not exactly sure how that would effect and truckload of troops. The metal prevents the microwaves and no damage or offer none at all. I fairly certain that 1940's engines didn't have much in the way of electronics though. Maybe an electric starter and headlights but nothing too necessary once the truck is running.
I'm probably wrong on all accounts. _________________ Playing: Deadlands Noir, Planescape via D&D 4th ed

Nope. I checked and you are pretty much correct. It's a microwave gun not an electric gun. It's just that hitting anything metal causes it to spark (like putting metal in a microwave oven... which you should NEVER do).
The main thing is that the weapon ignores armor, so while it might make a metal vehicle spark where the microwaves hit it, it really has no effect on the vehicle itself as it ignores it (since the vehicle would act as armor for anyone within) and by extension it would not affect the passengers within (unless one of them was the actual target).
In short, I'd say that the sparks from hitting metal are just a special effect as the weapon can only damage flesh and electronics but gets to ignore armor (a huge benefit). _________________ Clint Black
