Shaintar: Legends Arise (Beta Players Guide)
Sean Patrick Fannon’s vision comes to life for Savage Worlds in this all new iteration brought to you by Reality Blurs.
There are two core books planned for release. This generous excerpt from the first book is nearly two hundred pages in length and covers the complete character creation rules to be found in the final release of Legends Arise. All the races have been retooled and expanded out with more options than you can shake a stick at (along the lines of what you’ve seen in RunePunk).
You’ll find the synergy of proven elements, such as Defining Interests, alongside innovative new bits, such as the extensive Power Edges, which will let you take your magical mayhem to another level entirely.
Reality Blurs has been designing materials for Savage Worlds for over eight years, and is the oldest third party licensee. We’ve taken our expertise and worked with Sean Patrick Fannon to craft the most expansive expression of Shaintar to date. Now, we're going to give you an opportunity to check out what we've done free of charge.
Come and get it!
What do we ask in return? Check it out. Talk to us on our forums. Spread the word around. Please send folks to our website to get it. Sure, it’s free, but we want to be able to communicate with fans of the property.
May your sword stay ever sharp, your aim true, and may your magic never backfire!
Enjoy!
Best regards,
Sean Preston _________________ Reality Blurs

First, KUDOS! So far the book captures the parts of Shaintar that made me like it on the first run through, and tempered down the parts of the book that made me cringe.
Something I'm noticing right now as I look through it is the race section. I think there needs to be something near the front that gives a quick listing/rundown of the various races. It doesn't need to be much, a simple 1-2 sentence description or so of each race before we get into the big descriptions of each. _________________ Aperture Science:

I would be very grateful to know what parts those were so that, as I go forward, I have that as part of my knowledge base.
Thanks for the kind words! _________________ Sean Patrick Fannon

It was nothing mechanical. The turn off of the old book for me was the writing style you used. I prefer my setting books to have a different "tone" in them. The original book read too much like a guy describing his home brew world to his friends. I prefer something a bit more "encyclopedic" when reading a setting book.
So for me, it wasn't so much the content as the presentation that made me cringe. Other people's opinions might vary. _________________ Aperture Science:

I noted that as well. I suppose we could just cut some of those Edges to make room...

Two copies of the "Villanous Hindrances" Liner Notes are in the Beta Book:
One on page 97, another on page 117. _________________ Aperture Science:

If you could post these sorts of comments on our forums here, that'd be very helpful, and will consolidate them.
Thanks,
Sean
P.S. If I were being flip, I might say SPF has a very strong stance about Villainous Hindrances, but I won't. _________________ Reality Blurs

bummer. Can't download because your server is too busy. I'll have to try later.
But that IS good news, everyone is grabbing it! _________________ David Jarvis

Talk about a Geek Prime Moment...
"The heart of any lasting and memorable roleplaying campaign is the setting. Is it vivid? Alluring? Full of mysteries, as well as straight-ahead challenges?
If the answer is “Yes” to all of these, you are in good hands.
SHAINTAR is deep in “good hands” territory.
Just paging through the Players Guide makes you want to play, and it’s genuinely hard to create a boring character using this book; everything works together to make your Hero interesting. And that’s even before you get to the four detailed Major Enemies lurking in Shaintar. Or the rules for alchemy, or the tantalizing glimpses we get of the Black Lantern and Grayson’s Grey Rangers . . .
A winner. Get this book."
