|
|
PEG has a book called Slipstream, which is about a pocket universe called Slipstream that is the final destination for all the black holes in the normal universe.
QUEEN ANTHRAXIA AND HER HANDMADIENS
I assume Anthraxia and her Handmaidens are members of a female clone race called simply Handmaidens
TIMELINE OF SLIPSTREAM
Year 1: The now-extinct race that was native to the planetary fragment Quan and the psychic race called the Stygians use the Quan race's Weird Science technology and the Stygian psychic powers to create the pocket universe of Slipstream.
Year 7: planetary fragment Avia and the Bird Men first enter Slipstream
Year 101: planetary fragment Babel and the Babelonian race first enter Slipstream. By now, at least 50 races of sentients are now living within Slipstream.
Years 150 to 200: The Quan race and the Stygians war with each other over the Stygian effort to dominate the other races. After 50 years of war, the Stygians are defeated and finally exiled to the planetary fragment now called Stygia. The Quan race is nearly totally exterminated, and by Year 305 the last member of the Quan race dies.
Years 203 to 415: rise of the Avian Empire as the Bird Men under a fairly imperialistic dynasty conquer and dominate many races and planetary fragments in Slipstream. This Empire makes Streamer the dominant language and slips the dominate money of the pocket universe.
Years 415 to 420: rebellions on several planetary fragments are brutally put down by the Bird Man legions of the Avian Empire, but legal reforms allow non-Bird Man races a degree of self-government under local leaders. The reforms also establish a Parliament of Slipstream with representatives appointed by local racial leaders on various planetary fragments. The Parliament co-shares power with the Bird Man ruler on Avia. By now, over 700 sentient races called the pocket universe home.
Year 422: the Avian Empire establishes the paramilitary Judicial Forces to police Slipstream, with members recruited from various races.
Year 500: the planetary fragment Mechanos and it's Robot Men first enter Slipstream.
Year 510: non-Robot Man races first develop their own robots, called Mechanical Men, in order to imitate the Robot Men.
Years 555 to 557: the Stygians attempt to invade other planetary fragments, but a coalition of non-Stygians with psychic powers and Judicial Forces defeat them and drive them back to Stygia.
Year 606: a fleet of rocketships led by Anthraxia and containing Handmaidens emerge from the black hole leading into Slipstream, and they immediately attack various planetary fragments. War with the Avian Empire and the Judicial Forces is immediate.
Year 615: the native race on the planetary fragment Vitan is exterminated by Anthraxia and her Handmaidens.
Year 625: in a battle containing hundreds of rocket ships on both sides and above the planetary fragment Avia, Anthraxia finally defeats the Judicial Forces and the Avian Empire. Afterward, she addresses the Parliament of Slipstream on Avia, declaring the Avian Empire dissolved and proclaims herself the Queen of Slipstream. She also first establishes the system of tribute by various races and planetary fragments.
Year 631: Anthraxia claims the planetary fragment Radios.
Year 640: the planetary fragment Xaq and the race of Primals first enter Slipstream. Anthraxia and her Handmaidens rapidly seize control of Xaq and recruit the Primals as support troops.
Year 700: Earthlings (humans) first enter Slipstream. Soon, Anthraxia recruits loyal male Earthlings as her so-called Minions. By now, over 5000 sentient races live in the pocket universe.
Year 765: Planetary fragment Psidonia and the race of Psiclops first enter Slipstream. Queen Anthraxia rapidly declares a war of genocide against the Psiclops and seizes control of Psidonia.
Year 796: Planetary fragment Simba and it's native Lion Men first enter Slipstream. Female Valkarie also first enter Slipstream that same year.
Year 800: the present.

EARTHLINGS (HUMANS)
Year 700 of the Slipstream calendar (see timeline above) was actually 2345 A.D./C.E. in the human/Earth calendar. About this time, a black hole actually entered Earth's solar system and orbited Earth's Sun between the orbits of Earth and Mars. By this time, too, the planet Mars had actually been terraformed to Earthlike conditions and had millions of human colonists already. Rocketship traffic had become frequent between Earth and Mars, and the local blackhole actually made interplanetary travel between Earth and Mars somewhat hazardous.
Many Earthlings in Slupstream have converted to the worship of the Bird Men's Mother Goddess. Others follow the United Monotheistic Church, a fusion of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity; or Neo-Paganism, a fusion of Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Shinto.
BIRD MEN
When Avia first entered Slipstream in Year 7 of the Slipstream calendar, it was politically disunited. The various Nest Cities vied for control of the planetary fragment until Year 44, when the so-called First Dynasty united Avia. The kings of this dynasty lasted until Year 200, when the last king died with an heir, and a civil war among noble families saw the more militristic, expansionist Second Dynasty assume control of Avia, and wage a campaign to politically conquer as much of Slipstream as possible. The Second Dynasty rulers governed Avia as king and the interplanetary Avian Empire as Emperors. During this time, several offworld colonies of Birdmen were established on fragments other than Avia.
When Anthraxia and the Handmaidens entered Slipstream, they overthrew the Second Dynasty and placed the so-called Third Dynasty on the local throne of Avia. The offworld Bird Man colonies nominally swore allegiance to the kings of Avia, but in practice were politically independent.
Bird Man nobility recognizes three ranks: duke, baron, and knight. Dukes rule the more important nest cities, and the wives, siblings, parents, and children of the ruling king of Avia also have the title of duke. The ministers and advisors of the Avian king, as well as the rulers of the minor nest cities on Avia have the rank of baron. The spouses, siblings, parents, and children of dukes and barons possess the rank of knight. The leaders of offworld Bird Man colonies on fragments other than Avia possess the rank of baron or knight, dependening on their importance.
Bird Man religion is based upon the worship of the Mother Goddess, and during the time of the Avian Empire many members of non-Bird Man Slipstream races convert to the worship of her.
A heretical sect of Mother Goddess worshippers considered Queen Anthraxia to be the physical incarnation of the Mother Goddess.
ROBOT MEN
When Mechanos first entered Slipstream, the Robot Man rulers of the Technocrat caste decided to remain independent of the Avian Empire, although the Robot Men generally were favorable to organic races living in the pocket universe. The reason for this is because most Robot Men worship the so-called First Ones, the original sentient organic race that created them and inhabited Mechanos during it's pre-Slipstream history. Unfortunately, the First Ones of Mechanos died to to an incurable disease. The Technocrat rulers have permitted organics to live on Mechanos, since they remind the Robot Men of their creators/gods.
The economy of Mechanos is mostly owned by the Technocrat-run government, although certain citizens (mainly non-Robot Men) run small private businesses.
Many Robot Men worship both the First Ones and the Bird Men's Mother Goddess.
SKALINITES
Skalin had been heavily industrialized even before it entered Slipstream. The economy and government of Skalin after it entered the pocket universe in Year 96 of the Slipstream calendar was assumed by the United Corporation of Skalin (by Year 100). The United Corporation of Skalin was formed by private industrial and commercial interests on the planetary fragment. This divided Skalinites into two castse, the Shareholders, who owned the United Corporation, and the Workers, composed of most of the population of Skalin. Certain members of the Skakinite Worker caste own their own small businesses. Non-Skalinites living on Skalin are generally considered Worker caste.
Skalinite religion is polytheistic, though the Shareholder caste worships the Skalinite god of wealth and the Skalinite Workers consider the Skalinite god of hard work and the goddess of mercy and justice their chief deities. The Skalinite goddess of justice and mercy is often identified with the Bird Men's Mother Goddess.
Skalin is led by the Chief Executive, elected for a seven-year term of office by the Shareholders.
GYPTOSIANS
Gyptos and it's native race has been ruled by it's current dynasty even well before Gyptos fell into a black hole in the normal universe and ened up in the pocket universe of Slipstream. The ruler of the planetary fragment, called the Pharoah (of course), runs the government with the aid of a Council of Advisors composed of herditary nobles who inherited their Council seats and wealthy commoners who buy Council seats with money for a fixed number of years.
Non-Gyptosians are allowed to live on Gyptos, but they are treated as second-class citizens.
Gyptosian religion is based upon the worship of various gods, with Set as supreme deity. Set is believed to judge people who recently died and assign them to various parts of the underworld. Thanks to the influence of the old Avian Empire, the Bird Men's Mother Goddess is considered the female incarnation of Set by some Gyptosians, and quite a few heretics consequently considered Queen Anthraxia to be the physical incarnation of both Set and the Mother Goddess. |

Hi:
Nice timeline, altho' I would've introduced the Lion Men in the Stream earlier. & maybe getting into too much religious detail isn't appropiate for this style of setting.
Great stuff.

Nice timeline.
Simba as a Newcomer is a surprise for me, too.
I had simply described that the lionmen where nomads, so when they dont pay tribute and Anathraxa bombard their city most of the citicens could flee/hide before the bombs fall.
I had Anathraxa enter the slipstream with his giant command ship (think superstardestroyer) that was invincible for the local forces.
The weapons/armor of the handmaidens are from this ship, and a fleet of warrockets was in the hangars.
In my timeline it entered the stream 300 years ago.
Handmaidens and her other forces where local forces, but the details how she obtained her forces I left vague.
I had a large shipyard at Mechanos, patrolled by strong forces, where new warrockets get crafted. |

Now there's an idea. Helps explain how Anthraxa could show up and lay waste to the whole stream.
Although I'd make it a huge flying city/citadel to try and distance myself from the Star Wars angle.

My description wasnt really a superstardestroyer.
It was simply a blocky, ugly, 10+mile long ship. I never ended my campaign, so we never reached the point where the characters have to battle warrockets around the superstructures.
The ship was used to gather tribut payment, too.
It has a giant holoprojektor that display the laughing face of Anathraxa over the sky of the fragment that have to pay tribute.
So the face of the queen is well known, and the players see her (and her ship) over Simba. In a later plotpoint the heroes recognize Anathraxas face and I ask myself why is her face so well known?
A other idea I thinked was that a special guest of Anathraxa isnt deposit in some slave mine.
Instead he is still caged on the ship, and the heroes have to enter the ship(throneroom) and free him.
Maybe its possible the heroes could use the same way to enter the ship that is described in the plotpints to enter the slavemine.
I didnt use the idea myself because I see the danger that they could try to simply nuke the whole ship, or try to simply kill Anathraxa. |

Well, they'd have to get ahold of a nuke! If no one uses nukes, that might be difficult. Second, the ship is so big, let them go ahead, it has little effect!

Hi:
(AFTBRN)
That's what I also thought. The Slipstream "genre" doesn't go that way... the nuclear way. Probably too "hard" & "grim/gritty" for such a setting.
All ships have nuclear-fueled rockets tho'!
