I'm just wondering at which point in the development of Deadlands Noir to you start the kickstarter? Was it the moment you had the concept, rough draft, well into the draft process, or just short of final draft?

Also, what costs does the Kickstarter goal cover? Is it just printing or is there a good chunk of development cost in there?

I'm just curious as I might do my own Kickstarter at some point but I know next to nothing about it.

One of the main reasons we did a Kickstarter for Deadlands Noir in the first place was to gauge whether or not there was real interest in a Deadlands setting that wasn't essentially a Western. This is the first time we've considered it, and there was some considerable internal debate. The Kickstarter made it very, very clear there was ample fan interest in such a product.

With that said, it wouldn't have made much sense for us to gauge the likely reception of a product that was already finished with a Kickstarter. I believe it's best described as solid concepts and reasonably final outline, with development occurring at a feverish pace. When we met our goals, we pretty well chained a guy to a desk to write like the wing. When we blew through all out stretch goals, we chained a team to their respective desks to get to work on the Companion and its four additional cities.

Of course, we've got an established fan base that trusts us and we were gauging interest. Your situation may be entirely different.

Wow. Thanks that was very informative. BTW congrats. I heard on Smiling Jack's what a resounding success the kickstarter was.

So, the kickstarter also funded several lengths of chain and few padlocks.

Yeah, Pinnacle doesn't "release" their products. Their products escape, leaving a bloody wake of dead interns.
