Ok, so I had a dream last night, and in the dream a guy making up a SW character wanted to use only 4 attribute points instead of 5.
Yes, I had a dream where someone was making up a Savage Worlds character. Let's not get distracted here.
When I woke up and started to go about my day, I began to wonder what I'd do as a GM in that situation. Let the guy pick another Edge? Just let it stand?
What are some other odd situations that have come up in our game -- real or otherwise -- and how did you handle them? _________________ 'But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.

Judging roughly by the RAW, yes, an extra Edge would be appropriate.
But I would encourage the player against it, because SW doesn't have much in the way of dump stats. Not only would such a thing be ripe for player abuse, it could lead to having a table full of sub-par characters. I'm sure someone will pipe up to tell me I'm wrong in this regard, though.

Player abuse? What, you're worried about the rest of the table bullying him for his foolish choice?
I'd steer the player towards the Elderly or Young hindrances. Both reduce your starting attributes, and probably fit the concept behind a heroic-quality character that is below average. If they didn't, and the player was bound and determined to only use 4 attribute points, I'd probably give him an extra +2 hindrance points - so edges, skill points, or money. _________________ "Got a problem? Lol, I had a dream I was starting up an epic home-brewed campaign with some friends the other day and I woke up feeling really psyched to get it going. Too bad the dream didn't come with the actual epic campaign idea- I'll just have to think of one now...
I like ValhallaGH's response to this. It's probably not a good idea, so a versitile reimbursment seems reasonable. |
