Kevin's been busy.
Part of Max couldn’t believe he was back, that he had been back for a year today. After what he saw the last time he was here: a zombie Indian, his friends ripping each other apart, the kids going crazy and eating each other, and that goddamn bear. Then there was the year of government shrinks and threats and all of the pills…
But out here, out at Lake Wicakini, Max was calm. The air blowing through the pine forest, picking up the scent of the water in the early summer; it just felt different out here. It felt like…home.
Looking out across the parking area and camp cabins, Max had a flash back of the last time he saw it as a camper five years ago. The new cabins turned to smoking ruins, the burning vans had crashed into several of them, the Rat Shack was an inferno. It was a fleeting image, but it brought with it the screams and the smells that he’d worked so hard to keep in check. He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath and when he exhaled, his eyes opened. Brand new cabins, built of fieldstone and timbers, coated so that you couldn’t light with flamethrower. Even the Ratheshack was new, and almost all of it stone, steel, and glass. The roofs were steel, but they were designed to look like the old mossy wooden shingles of the old buildings.
Max found his feet moving him subconsciously to the caretaker’s cabin. George used to live there before everything happened. No one ever told Max what happened to ol’ George, but he knows it was something awful; a bad way to die for such a good old man. The cabin didn’t belong to George anymore, now it was Max’s. It seemed fitting that the last survivor of the “Camp Wicakini Fire” was also its first caretaker when the camp reopened. Max remembers seeing the ad looking for a new caretaker, and within minutes he was on the phone with the new managers. They hired him on the spot.
Now Max finds his feet moving faster, but he’s not doing it on purpose. He can hear the excited shouts of the kids as they get into a van. It’s 9 am on their first day of the last week of camp; 15 of them are going on a nature hike, the other 45 have arts and crafts in the Rat Shack. He can’t figure out why he’s hurrying though…the counselors have checked in, everything is good to go. So what the hell is this feeling of dread?
Something moves in the woods. Something stops, looks at Max from the shadows, and then moves again, very slowly, not making a sound. Something with the eyes of a predator that moves on two legs. The blood in Max’s veins turns to ice and he hesitates for a second, but in the instant that his heart skipped, he was there for an eternity.
A single thought blasted through Max’s mind like a harrowing scream in the stillness of the night, “Shotgun!” The thought was a starter’s pistol firing in Maxwell Mason’s mind and he took off for the Groundskeeper’s Cabin faster than he knew he could run. _________________ Kevin Rohan, Content Director

Second, Cool! More Camp Wicakini!
First: That is some awesome opening fiction. Gives me chills, and puts me in the mood for a night of terror and death. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Things will be different at the camp this year! But, as Snake Plisken once said, the more things change, the more they stay the same... _________________ Kevin Rohan, Content Director
