Searched but did not find, and since it came up in the clarification thread: Clint mentioned that the Drop was intended to be primarily a melee modifier. Is it not intended then that ranged attackers have the Drop? I can think of circumstances where it is appropriate (well hidden snipers, that scary cloaked alien up in the trees with the plasmacaster), and had figured it might account for the relative difficulty of actually outright killing someone with a large-caliber weapon without the bonus. Thought I should ask since it came up.

Also: for characters with the Assassin edge, the +2 would then apply to any unaware attack, correct? Would it be reasonable to substitute in Shooting for Fighting for characters who specialize in long-range attacks of this type, so one would have Assassin (close-range) and Assassin (distance), effectively?

As noted in the description of The Drop, "This usually happens at a distance of only a few feet, but other situations may occur (a sniper on a nearby rooftop)."

The Drop can happen at range, but usually/primarily, it will be in melee.

Assassin already states <italics added>, "Assassins add +2 to any damage roll where they strike a foe unawares (even with ranged attacks)."

As long as the target is unaware, the bonus applies. If you can kill up close, you can kill at a distance. Wink
