My posse is just about to wrap up CRtM tonight and I'm not sure where to take them from there. In particular the posse has no particular reason or care to stick together after this and I'm finding myself hard pressed to give them a reason to. The posse consists of a holy man seeking vengeance, a mad scientist girl trying to keep out of her parent's reach and an easy going huckster con man.
Any suggestions?
I have access to the other 6 converted Classic Deadland adventures, Devil's Night, Beast of Fire* and Deadshot*, not to mention the plethora of One Sheets of course, but I do not have The Flood or Last Sons.

Who's the holy man after? Can't the con man fleece the spoiled runaway? Where is the runaway going, and why doesn't she realize that the holy man could look out for her?
You need a bit of player buy in to keep a group together, but you can manipulate their motivations to pull them together. Just make their individual stories come together.
Heck, you can have them go their separate ways, only to discover that they all end up in the same spot again - because their enemies are allied with each other!
(A great example of this can be found in this play-thread: www.peginc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30941 ) _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

If they are heading to the same general area, they can just be traveling companions for a while. Also if they'd like allies to help them accomplish their personal goals (e.g. the holy man would like to have an extra gun when it's time for vengeance), then that might be a good reason for them to stick together.
Of course if they're still wanting to pull a Ronan Lynch and just wander out on their own, then you may have to just tell them they have to work together for the sake of the game. _________________ Wild Card Creator: Any PDF. Any Setting. No Extra Cost.

| Did Laura Giles or Denise Merritt survive the adventure? Either of them could provide future hooks. Laura would probably want to monitor them all, at least in the short term, to evaluate if they're a threat and/or of use to the Agency. Denise may have leads on further weird goings on in the West. |

Holy man is seeking the people responsible for burning down his church, his family and his entire congregation.
The con man could try to fleece the runaway, but she's shown herself to be a bit screw loose and dangerous and is leery of her. Plus I dislike internal party pvp stuff.
The runaway has a strong "I don't need a man to solve my problems" motif, so leaning on the holy man would be way out of character. |

well this idea won't work if the player already knows everything there is to know about the guy that burned down his church. but if you are able to bend that story line go with this. they go their separate ways.
the church burner is working for union blue which has just entered into one of its temporary truces with black river. the church burner plays some cards with the con man and accuses him of cheating(likely true) and takes the con man outside for a duel. the preacher enters town because he tracked the bastard down. the runaway has mean time hired on to black river which is in town to cooperate with the union blues that have arrived.
the optimal thing here would be to have the runaway and the preacher come to con mans aid. the bad guy will run (and this is important... survive) then plunge them into the rail wars with the burner as a reoccurring villain (this is good because now both the preacher and the con man want his hide.) also black river will be hunting the runaway because she disobeyed orders.
have the party gain allies in other railroads then have other quests where those allies ask for help. and if you do end up buying it you can then flow into the flood if one of those allies happen to be wastach (not sure if i spelled that right).
after a while make it clear that really in this mass race which the party got caught up in (and in which all the sides are pretty much evil.) they can only trust each other to guard their backs.
this would be my solution to the problem but it might not apply to your groups gaming style but it is an idea. |

| Neat idea, I'm not sure about the rail wars aspect, but it certainly gives me some ideas for bonding the group together. |
