I have a few questions about the fate chip pool in classic Deadlands.
Are Fate Chips awarded by the Marshal as Bounty dug out of the Fate Pool, or are they extras given straight from Marshal to player? And, if the latter, do they become a permanent part of the Fate economy (going into the Fate Pool when spent) or is the Pool returned to its base level (plus Legend Chips) every session?

All Fate Chips come out of the Fate Pot. The only chips that are ever added are Legend Chips (and Black Chips if your Marshal is playing with those). This does mean that it's entirely possible that no one can get any kind of bounty, RP draws, or anything else if the various personal stacks get too big. (This is mostly a problem with the Marshal's stack since it has no limit, carries over between sessions, and the Marshal gets to make a lot of extra draws for various reasons.)
A kinder Marshal can award bounty beyond what's in the Pot, with the understanding that players are expected to convert that into Bounty Points between sessions. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."
