|
|
Prior to getting Darwin's World I had fiddled with tech levels. Originally I devised a three level spectrum but found it unsatisfactory. There just was not enough of a difference between tech levels. So I devised a 5-level spectrum. It works largely the same way, basically creating penalties to use items of a higher tech.
I utilized weapons tech just as the easiest way to describe the levels.
0= Stone-age weapons, non-metal weapons, simple bows. Used by extreme luddites or Backwards tribes.
1= Metal Weapons, Metal Armors, up to late Medieval Weapons.
2= Firearms up to Civil War Period
3= Cartridge non-electronic firearms, Capable of creating eletrical appliances if an energy source exists.
4= 21st Century Firearms, Multi Story buildings
5= Advanced weaponry (Sci-Fi)
Pure Humans are automatically considered tech 3
Mutants are Tech 2
Mutated Animals are Tech 1
Sentient Plants are Tech 0
Androids are Tech 5 _________________ Savage Worlds doesn't even have a bell curve. It has a probability line that looks like it was drawn by a blind person in an earthquake. Anything can happen. |

So, the U.S. Revolutionary War was half TL 3 and half TL 4. Good to know. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Revolutionary war would sit pretty squarely at Tech Level 2. or is it the reference to multi-story buildings? I was referring to modern steel buildings over over 8 to ten stories. _________________ Savage Worlds doesn't even have a bell curve. Each culture/civilization actually has a multitude of tech levels. One may be advanced in medicine but failing in transportation. Another might have the best in weaponry/warfare but be really bad at agriculture.
You might want to come up with a few catagories to delineate the advancements.

Snate, I just used weapons as a common core. But you are right. Don't know that I will get that involved.
I just felt like three tech levels was not granular enough. This emphasizes the Flint-wielding tribal accidentally discharging a plasma rifle and being fearful of the dragon inside the metal tube rather than the "oh its similar to my tech but better and harder to fix" that 3 levels gives you. _________________ Savage Worlds doesn't even have a bell curve. Ok, so lets divie Tech into three or four broad areas: Weapons, Engineering, and Medical seem appropriate. In most cases all three tech would advance similarly But it would be an easy set-up to an edge or Hindrance or even just a community quirk. _________________ Savage Worlds doesn't even have a bell curve.
