I've been hearing a lot of buzz about Thieves' World lately due to a kickstarter project http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/563681582/tales-of-the-emerald-serpent-shared-world-mosaic-a?ref=live

I saw that Green Ronin made a 3rd ed book for it, but I was curious if anyone had tried out a Savage World's version of the setting?

I wrote up a savage worlds version on the Thieves World magic system a while back. It was in one of the final Shark Bytes issues.

Thanks for all the responses. PMing you soon.

PS: Anyone know if the D20 version is a good source for background stuff?

I have all the Green Ronin books for Thieves' World d20 - they are fantastic. Specifically Shadowspawn's Guide to Sanctuary - it has a TON of NPC's - A LOT of characters from the books.

Hard to find these days, but if you do, they should be cheap. There was a time just after when 4e came out, Green Ronin did a fire sale, and you could get all the books for like $5 each. I actually have a few copies of each because of this.

I have seriously considered savaging thieves' world using a lot of the ideas from GR. using the 'Fan' licensing. hesitant, because it's a lot of work, and there is soooo much savage worlds material I have yet to play.. too much good stuff (good job pinnacle!!)

While the GR stuff is of nice production value (I have them all) there is alot of fluff that you could strongly argue is not really seen in the books.

What you want is a big town map and some incredible encounter tables from the old Thieve's World boxed set. I found two on ebay. Worth it for the map alone. BTW, they traced the old map for the GR one. But the GR one is very small. The old one is HUGE.

Yes, I have 3 copies of the old Box set from Choasim. I had one of the big maps laminated. I got some of the best adventures from the random event tables (uhhh.. let's see, you are mugging.. roll,roll,roll.. a Priestess of Vashanka).

And I found the add-on book for when the Beysib come in.

Back in the day, I had even scanned the map and had put it into Campaign Cartographer.

With both of these products, there was very little you couldn't handle or do.

I laminated my map too! With a dry erase marker it became the cornerstone prop of the whole game. Esp. when inevitably the group would split up, at night. Out comes the random encounter tables and tables and tables. But really great things came out of those.

okay, this thread inspired me.. I am working on a Savage Fan Setting document for Thieves' World.

Anyone want to give some input?

Also, I was hoping to get permission from HawaiianBrian to use use magic article in the document - otherwise I'll just have to refer to the Sharkbytes article.

PM me I can send you a bunch of rules to get the feel.

I did NOT try to replicated what Green Ronin did.

They are in pockemod format.

You already sent me all those - not really rules, but mostly quick reference sheets. You did a lot of work putting weapons, common citizens and vigilance ratings. They are great!

What I am talking about is rules to make SW feel more TW, not just reference data. HawaiianBrian's magic rules is the starter here, and yeah, it's a direct pull from what Green Ronin did, but it could be different.

I wrote up how to do Curses, which Green Ronin did, too, but it's all over in the books, so its not a stretch to have them. I did them similarly to GR.

Other bits, like new edges or spells or hindrances. Enlibar steel as a material. Nothing too major, but GR did do some nice feats we could replicate. Like Manhunter.

Manhunter:
Professional Edge
Requirements: Seasoned, Notice d8, Streetwise d8
When tracking down a person, get +2 to Intimidation, Persuasion, Notice and/or Streetwise checks.

Other than the reference sheets showing weapons, item costs, fencing goods, poisons, notes on gods, calendar etc. I went with straight Core SWEX. We had a blast for a couple of years.

Those NPCs might be taken from some official sorce. Double checkbefore posting. I did them 4 years back and can't remember where I got them from or if I made them up.
