Under the description of Helmets in the equipment liste, the note says 50 % chance vs. head shot. What does this mean exactly?
I've always played it like this:
A character with d8 vigor and Kevlar armor has a Toughness of 10 vs. gun shots, but if his attacker makes a called shot to the head, his Toughness goes down to 6 and the damage roll also gains a +4 bonus.
When wearing a helmet, his Toughness is still 9 or 10 however (depending on helmet).
Does this 50 % chance to avoid head shots mean that he has a 50 % chance of avoiding the +4 damage gained by a called shot to the head?

Nope, it just means the helmet's Armor has a 50% chance of applying if a head shot is made. So if the character is shot in the head, there is a 50/50 chance he gets the armor from the helmet applied to his Toughness. In short, there is a 50/50 chance the head shot hits the helmet. _________________ Clint Black
