In the last session one of my players attacked his opponents weapon in order to shatter it ( player had iron weapon; npc had a bone weapon). We rolled attack at -2 to hit and applied a toughness of 8 to the weapon and the bone ax was easily broken. This actually seemed more effective than the disarm maneuver and wanted your thoughts on if we handled it correctly.

Then the disarmed npc grappled the player and tried to throw him into an adjacent pit, using contested rolls. Player resisted every time but had a heck of time braking free. What can a character do while being grappled? Can he attack with weapons or must continue to try breaking free?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Note that Disarm uses a Called Shot to attack the arm holding the weapon, not the weapon itself. It even specifically states <italics added>, "Ranged attacks can be nonlethal if the attacker targets the weapon instead of the limb (generally –4 instead of –2)."

If the axe was as big as a limb (maybe a two-handed one), then the -2 Called Shot might apply, but such a large axe would also be tougher.

He can attempt other actions as noted under Grappling, "Instead of breaking free the defender may attempt a different action but at a –4 penalty."

Hope that helps.
