|
|
We recently purchased the Deadlands "Smith & Robards" catalog book, but we do not have a Deadlands core book to see the base value of the money. We have the following conversions so far and would like the last piece:
$100 current (core) = 1 pound sterling (Gaslight) = $5 Victorian era (Rippers)
Deadlands is.....?
Thanks for the help.

You could, but the gear prices would make a liar out of you.
If DLR$1 = SWD$2 then a Colt Dragoon in SWD should cost $22. The listed Colt Dragoon is $200.
However, a DLR Horse is $150 and a SWD Horse is $300. So it's one of those "setting dependent, read the book" situations. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Absolutely, the setting dictates scarcity/value of anything, but since they were asking about how prices in S&R relate to Deadlands proper, a reasonable benchmark for comparison is starting funds. _________________ Lord Inar

True, but it's worth really emphasizing that the cost isn't really directly "convertable" based off starting money especially for items of such a unique nature like those in S&R. Benchmark, maybe; conversion, highly unlikely.
The GM really has to consider how their introduction could alter the very setting itself. I know Rippers (and I suspect Gaslight as well) would be highly different settings if weird devices of this nature were available at all, much less if they were being mass produced. _________________ Clint Black

We are doing a steampunk infused Victorian era campaign. The plan is to alter the basis of how the items are built and the GM will let us know what can and cannot be purchased. Altering the "mishaps" flavor as well. We are not going for most of the items, mainly armor and weapons. We had already introduced dirigibles and clockwork men, so this is not too far a leap for things we could then purchase from Germany. |
