In my Anima: Beyond Fantasy campaign, the characters are gaining experience. Before long, they'll be important characters in the campaign world. The source rules are designed so that when characters are about 5th level (out of 15), they are essentially already "epic". I haven't played at that level, but people say they should be able to take out large squads/ small armies of common combatants. I'm actually a bit skeptical of this, having looked at the numbers. In fact, by the RAW, it's still quite possible to be hurt at any level by any attack due to the commonality of critical hits and fumbles.
In the Anima rules, there is a cap on how high you can roll on most physical actions. When you break certain barriers, either temporarily through magic, or permanently though character advancement, you can acheive these results. They are called "Inhuman" and "Zen". They allow you to do things that are generally not possible, like running on wires, punching through stone walls, or launching fireballs that are a mile across.
So, my idea is to introduce these 2 levels to the game. Characters will either gain access to their results by simply gaining them as ranks, or by taking Legendary edges with various prerequisites. Characters could also potentially gain this status temporarlily though powers.
Once a character has this status, he can do more. For instance, some ideas:
Inhuman:
* roll 2 extra d6s with 2+ raises on a hit roll.
* Gain an extra wound level (requires an edge?) or a straight + to toughness?
* Rolls d8s for wild dice.
* Powers gain an additional effect with 2+ raises on a skill rolls, or spending more PP on them. This would include more damage and larger area-effects.
* Zen: roll 3 extra d6s with 3+ raises on a hit roll
* Another extra wound level
* d10s for wild dice.
* More expanded power effects.
Like I said, I want to keep it simple. I'm trying to keep the list to around 5-7 things. Some of the stuff is already possible through weird and legendary edges.
Anyway, that's the beginning of the idea. Any thoughts? |
