Hi
just wanted to be clear on whether tricks are free actions or not as their usefulness (unless you geta raise) seems odd unless you act after your opponent on the turn the trick is used and gain initiative the next turn. They may get -2 to parry but not attack? Sounds like you are expected to follow through on your attack the same round as the trick

Tricks are normal actions, but note that the -2 to Parry is not limited only to the character who performed the Trick. Tricks are great for setting up a foe for follow-up attacks, but those attacks do not have to come from the person who performed the Trick.
At their foundation, Tricks are perfect for the smart or agile "noncombatant" character to have a definitive and direct effect in combat, but you are also correct that they could be used by the character performing then in specific situations.
They would typically need to act after their target and then act before them in initiative the following turn (meaning characters with Edges that increase initiative have a better chance of benefiting from their own Tricks). Or depending on the setting, they could have an Edge that negated the penalty for performing a Trick as a multi-action with an attack. _________________ Clint Black
