...and I figured this was the place to come seeking advice. Be forewarned, I may turn this into a TL:DR situation before I come to my point, so bear with me or skip to the end, as suits you.
As I became disillusioned with the way my D6 Star Wars campaign was going and decided to wind it down, I came across my DL stuff in storage.
Fate, it seemed, wanted some unimaginable terrors to get put in Boot Hill.
So, I have three players and am considering adding a fourth before the game ends. They'll be playing an orphan kid huckster, an ex Confederate cavalry officer turned gunslinger, and a British gentleman who works for a secret paranormal investigation organization.
Their first mission together will be told as back story to explain why they'd get and stay together, and will involve being on the wrong side of the border to be a rebel and a Brit. They'll save the day from a terrible supernatural threat just in time to end up surrounded by Pinkertons, who've come to take care of the problem that is now gone.
The Pinkertons will realize that they have just been helped, but won't like who has helped them, so they'll politely thank them as they walk them to the nearest boarder, inform them that they are very skilled and dangerous, so while they don't have to go home, they can't stay here. Hopefully setting up a potential situation where they can be contracted by the Pinkertons to help them out in the West.
There will be an anti-party that contains members who can act as counterparts and foils to the party and will have been behind the supernatural shenanigans up north to torment them as the game goes on.
So, after all this blabbing, my point finally rolls around:
Does anyone have any advice that someone who hasn't played or ran Classic Deadlands in a bit over a decade should keep in mind while setting up and running a campaign?
Many thanks for your suggestions and advice.

Hi Malco (nice name )
My only advice would be - have FUN, take your time, don't be too worried about changing the pace from time to time, your players will LOVE it either way. My posse is still live and kicking after 12+ years, and this makes it already more than any other setting (and we've always stuck to settings for long, originally classic fantasy (DSA) and then Arthurian (Pendragon)).
It seemed to me that the coolness of the setting has inspired them on and on. Hope it will do the same for you and your posse.
Just as a side note - Brit and Rebel as opposed factions? Actually, the Brits support the CSA (pretty concretely at one point) in the "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" way. But maybe I got you wrong. _________________ nothing's forgotten, nothing's ever forgotten... |
