I have had a look through the books that I have and I can not find any Dark Elf race in them. Does SW have a book with this race in for a player character.

I don't know of any right offhand, but you could use the Race Creation rules in the core Savage Worlds Deluxe book to create your own version.

I did think of that, I was wondering if SW had created their own one.

For Dökkálfar (the dark elves of Norse mythology) you could just use the dwarf race. For other types of dark elf (such as Feist's Moredhel or Warhammer's Druchii) you could give them the same abilities as a regular elf. If you're basing them on a specific setting where dark elves have special abilities, you'll need to create your own, but it's usually pretty easy (and the community here is good at giving constructive feedback).

Well, a basic version would simply be...

Shadow Elves: Shadow elves are an offshoot of the race adapted to subterranean life. Unlike their brethren, they have no penalty with mechanical devices, preferring crossbows in fact. They are sensitive to bright light though.

Agile - As Elf
Infravision - As the ability.
Light Sensitive - Shadow Elves effectively have the Bad Eyes Hindrance. This is considered Minor because it only applies in conditions brighter than Dim and they can wear a wide-brimmed hat (like glasses) or hood (glasses with nerdstrap) to avoid the penalty in light. They also suffer a -2 penalty to opposed rolls to resist powers with light trappings.

In my Cloud Kingdom setting I split the elves into primitive sky jungle dwelling Silvan and the decadent urban Elden that have the style and manners of the Skeksis from dark crystal

Thunderforge's excellent conversion of the Elder Scrolls universe -The Elder Scrolls: A Savage Worlds Conversion- has the Dunmer (dark elves) of Morrowind as a player race. They're somewhat different than more standard dark elves such as D&D's drows though. Dunmer have a +2 toughness against fire, can summon a guardian spirit for 1d6 minutes once per game session (longer than most battles) and they have the mean hindrance.

Usually dark elves are evil/corrupted elves.

In Lord of the Rings, corrupted elves are orcs

they are dark elves because they are way cool bad boys, experts in the use of mascara and goth poetry. They can duel wield any weapon until the the author gets tied of writing the phrase twirling scimitars

Misfit Studios has a number of PDFs that expand the pre-made Fantasy Races and Monsters available for Savage Worlds that includes Dark Elves as a player race.

Supposedly they will be included in a SpirosBlaak setting conversion for SW to be released in the near future. U can order direct from them, or from your fave RPG PDF store:

One of my players wanted to run a dark elf. He's using the normal elf template and a bad attitude, and it's working well for him. Very Happy

Some settings have done that, where the "dark elf" is really just an evil elf. Dragonlance's world of Krynn comes to mind with the apprentice of Raistlin named Dalamar.

I personally prefer the Drow spider-loving and demon-worshipping version myself. But I do have to admit that I am very weary from all of the Drizzt emulations that I have seen. It is like a modern character that carries a katana, and wears sunglasses and a black trench coat (even bofore Blade did it).

My gaming group has long disallowed the brooding "solo" hero

Tolkien had 'dark elves' in Middle-earth, but they were physically no different from the Noldor or the Sindar. They were simply elves who'd never seen the light of the Two Trees.

That's the point. He called them Dark Elves, but it had nothing to do with them being evil of living underground. They'd just not witnessed the glory of the Two Trees in Valinor. They were nothing at all like the modern concept of the drow or dark elves or whatever.
