Looks like the other threads on this show got culled...
Anyone still watching Hell on Wheels?
I lost interest for two or three weeks (I thought the Swede's "evil math" monologue was clumsily written and on-the-nose, and it kind of turned me off... or rather, I turned it off...), but with last night's episode the writers really hit their stride.
Penultimate episodes of a season, these days, are usually concerned with set-up for the finale. This one had some of that, but it also had some really good action, acting, and plot twists. Now I'm all-in. _________________ Matthew Cutter

I watched the first few and stopped. I have them all on the DVR waiting for me to watch them but I just haven't been motivated to give them another try. _________________ Norm "No Relation" Hensley |

| I've enjoyed them, some more than others. I really enjoyed the preacher's scene in the church tent in this last episode. |

Didn't get to see the first episodes, just started with episode 6. I like them so far. The title just says Deadlands. Watching them On Demand.
The ambush in episode 7 was pretty graphic, but spot on. _________________ http://www.armsonline.org/

I'm not because I don't have TV. Only internet. One of the things that had to get cut last year... _________________ "I had a whole bunch of advice for you but got ninja'd by newForumNewName. I'd just do what he says." -- 77IM

Now that was a plot twist. Never saw it coming.
Neither did he... _________________ Matthew Cutter

I've only watched up to episode 8 so I haven't seen the latest one yet (I'll be watching it when I get home from work). I think the show is great and I actually like the Swede. It's no Deadwood but I really think this show is starting to hold its own. _________________ Ejector seat? You're joking!

I kind of hope the Swede gets some kind of heel-face turn before his enmity with Bohannon gets him killed. Maybe they can team up against someone eviller. Elam + Bohannon + Black Moon + Swede + Mrs. Bell - they'd make a nice group of PCs.
That last scene with the preacher, though! _________________ --

Alright, I finally watched them all (including the latest one from Sunday night). The second half of episodes was better than the first but I'm just not diggin' it for some reason. _________________ Norm "No Relation" Hensley |

Well, that was an interesting way to end the first season. It's almost like they didn't know whether they'd get renewed...
But they did! So how do you think they'll get Cullen back into the fold? Seems a shame to abandon the whole cast... _________________ Matthew Cutter

| I'm with you. That does seem like an unusual way to round out a season, but I have a hard time calling ten episodes a season (which is a "in my day" rant for another day). |

To be fair, in the old days 10-episode seasons had an additional 12 or 13 episodes of useless filler and advertisements.
I'm in favor of the new model. _________________ Matthew Cutter

Maybe. But that means no Hell on Wheels Christmas Special... |

In the UK a large number of shows keep the episode count down. Spooks (MI-5 in the US of A) is a classic example. I much prefer the shorter seasons as it allows me to catch up on other shows and, as Cutter says, avoids the unnecessary filler.
I'm certainly glad Hell on Wheels has been renewed but, as you guys say, a strange ending that definitely feels as though they were hedging their bets. _________________ Ejector seat? You're joking!

As far late 1800s historical dramas go I thought Copper was the best of the lot on basic cable. I caught a few episodes on BBC America awhile back and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hell on Wheels had a lot of promise but in the end I don't think it really lived up to the other shows on AMC. It was just too uneven from episode to episode.
As far as wild west dramas go nothing beats Timothy Olyphant in Deadwood. That man shouldn't bother taking roles that don't require him to wear a cowboy hat. |
