This seems really neat, but I think I'll just stick with a standard copy of SWEX to be honest. You just can't beat a $10 rulebook that gives everything it does for virtually any setting (and I've brought in a lot of new Savage gamers from the price alone). I'm not sure I want to spend $30 for some situational stuff and more explanations.
But to each their own. |

August?! Why couldn't you just announce it out of the blue, like two weeks from shipping, so we don't have to wait for months for this new shiny? Now I have to wish my life away so that August comes quicker. |
As I understand it, they weren't planning on announcing it this soon. However, one of their distributors got wind of it and let the cat out of the bag.
Some things Clint explained in chat the other night.
Most of the mechanics haven't changed significantly. It's more refinements than outright changes.
The new spells will mostly be pulled from the Fantasy Companion, though not all FC spells made it in.
Some existing spells will be changed. In particular, some will now be able to affect multiple targets where they currently only affect one.
The Interludes mechanics are greatly refined and changed from the Dramatic Interludes mechanics, geared to give players a bit more input. The mechanics are at least partly card-based, and the suit of a card pulled can affect the theme of the encounter.
There are new Chase rules that Shane wrote more-or-less from scratch.
There will be rules for social conflicts (though I may be misremembering the named used). These will be for things like debates, courtroom trials, and the like, where a single persuasion roll just won't cut it.
If anyone remembers anything I missed (or if I have something wrong), feel free to mention it. |

You mean like, 160 pages, hardbound (full-size not Explorer size), and $29.99. |
I am all in! Oh wait no Undead gunslingers on the cover!? SHHHHHHH Yeah, I can not purchase this.
I kid..I kid. Looking forward to it! _________________ Eastwood Saves! The rest of you take Full Damage. |

Hmmm ....
We also have time to invent a suitable acronym or similar for the Savege Worlds Deluxe Edition.
I'll put forwards ... SWoDE _________________ Currently Playing:

Honestly, I was hoping for something like this. Though I do like the portability of the SWEX, I still have a preference for standard size hard cover books. Looking forward to getting my hands on this. _________________ The opinions expressed in this post are just my two cents. YMMV

For what it's worth, the working acronym has been SWD. I've always internally pronounced it as "Swede" with a really bad Nordic accent. But that's probably just me. I'd bet everyone else thinks of it as S W D. _________________ Joel Kinstle

To tell the truth, I just get jonesy to give Pennicle money. Their dark magicks have me feeling glum when there is nothing in the SW line for me to buy. It makes me happy when I can get a new book in my hands, cards, dice, chips, minis or what have you. However, I can wait, and dont wish time to speed up, oh gods no. I just look forward to times I get surprised, and want to "donate" as I call it to the Savage cause. I hate it so, when I am all out of materials to buy or books to read from them. Sick? Perhaps yes, but it makes me fuzzy inside.
So will the SWD have a generic adventure generator that can be used for any genre of play, or do the adventures that were mentioned cover that type of material? _________________ Eastwood Saves! The rest of you take Full Damage. |

The rewritten chase rules sold it for me.
I've pre-ordered it!!
Now the waiting starts.
(added via edit) - I sure hope this edition doesn't make all my Explorer stuff obsolete. |

Couple of things about the new Deluxe edition cover.
- The SW logo start to become "old style"; I'd re-design the icons inside the 4 circles, at least.
- I think that 3 figures could better represent the "universal" feeling of the rules. "Ancient - Modern - Future" combo is always a good choice; you did it for Reloaded edition if I remember good - as other companies did, with more figures some time (True20). So you could keep the warrior, add some modern/horror Hero, then Sci-fi girl.
- Nice work about the mixed background - you just need to add a "slice", if you have a 3rd figure. Maybe, from left to right: "Fantasy / 19th century / Contemporary / Future" backgrounds.
- Someone don't like to see "real world" flags on a cover, so you should to heavily modify the flag on the girl shoulder, so it doesn't look so "american".
As always, this is my humble opinion. _________________ "Balance is the key, Trapping is the word." - - Lord Lance

I agree, in part, that the cover is a pinch dry. I think getting it licked & sold in a store would be smoother if the cover had a big Smiling Jack in a rain of chips & dice, while playing wickedly with dolls from other genres. It would be more attention grabbing in our world of video games, and manga, and it would fit in nice with the feel of most of your new art.
Also my humble opinion. It was fun thinking about it a bit. He is your mascot! Make him work for his souls. _________________ Eastwood Saves! The rest of you take Full Damage. |

Hi gang!
The only really big change from SWEX is to the Chase Rules. They needed it, and everything we changed will be in a FREE FAQ here in a couple of weeks.
Everything else is extra. So yes, other than the Chase rules and a few tweaks here and there it's completely SWEX compatible.
Thanks!

I for one am happy about the SWDE--it looks like a great chance to take a peak at the designer's oh-so-squishy brains, and gives us a hard-back copy of the rules that appeals to my collector side. I'm sure my copies of SWEE will still see plenty of play, but when it comes to curling up on the couch I'll be grabbing my copy of SWDE.
Question: might you be including an FAQ or some-such, covering a few of the questions that get brought up a lot of the time in the Official Answers on How the Core Rules Work forum? |

I’m very excited about this. I like the cover. I like the price (for a hardcover book). And as one who has enjoyed but also struggled a bit with the “dense” rules of the SWEE, I’m looking forward to seeing how the SWDE does on making the rules a bit more user friendly for the newbie SW player. _________________ Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Oh, this is exciting!
I loved finding SWEX for ten bucks and would advocate that it continue to be available for the newbies to buy into. However I am very pleased to see the news.
I thought the old chase rules worked rather well, but I'll be pleased to see the new ones. I also look forward to the other new rules. I wonder if the alchemist is in the new powers rules, and indeed I hope they are. |
