|
|
So, I want to do space battles. Dogfights and the like. Like Star Wars, but with all serial numbers filed off (see where this is going? ).
So, I bought The Daring Tales of the Space Lanes Compendium I. It's in the mail as we speak. Well, as I write. Whatever. I'm sure I'll like it.
But here's my question: will it have what I need? i.e. a few ship stats to do antagonists for my players? Don't need that much, probably "cheap fodder-like TIEs", some "player interceptors X-Wing like", and some interesting ships for the Villains.
If those kind of stats are not in the Compendium, are they in some other supplement? Le me know.
(else, where are some stats for those "space things"?) _________________ Lex |

DTSL has a few fighters and small capital ships spread throughout the various adventures. We have a Starships of the Galaxy supplement out in June, which has nothing but starship stats in. _________________ Wiggy

Some of them in the Compendium, or should I get some of the PDF adventures too?
And great for the June release! _________________ Lex |

The Compendium is made up of the first four PDF adventures, plus the setting rules. _________________ Wiggy

(Sorry I feel like I'm being a bit dense here...)
... and are there some basic starships in the first four PDF adventures?
I'm looking to see if I should get other PDF adventures for these stats on top of the Compendium that's already in the mail. Actually I know there's a lot of those starship stats going around in various conversions, but these have always seemed a bit "wingy" for my taste (damage and armor come to mind). This is where a "professional, playtested" product like DOSL from TAG takes its full value.
I still don't know how I'm going to run these starship battles rules-wise. I don't quite like running them as Chases, and I'm not sure I want to break out the measuring tape to use the "full vehicle rules". Best of both worlds for me would probably be to run them exactly as if they were character battles, with minor modifications for movement (speed and sharp turns). A bit like the Star Wars Saga "starship scale" if you're familiar with it. I'll probably end up winging it a bit anyway.
Thanks for all that! _________________ Lex |

I build all my starships with the rules in the Sci Fi Gear/Equipment Companion. The builds for ships balance nicely against each other. My group also prefers the chase rules from the Explorers Edition, so we use those for chases and dogfights. Epic battles can include lots of spacecraft "extras", to give it a feeling of highteneddrama/excitement, and then have an enemy "Ace" (Wildcard") to give your players a real run!!!
Use environmental obstacles also, like asteroid feilds, radiation clouds, and things like that. that can be found in the Daring tales of the Space Lanes companions you'll soon have. And above all, keep it exciting and cool!!! _________________ "Anything smaller is just fiddly, and fiddly is not one of SvgW's three Fs..." |
