I have recently begun running a Rippers game, and the thing that drew me to the setting is now slowly driving me insane, namely the social adventures. Writing and running "hunt" or "investigation"-style is not a problem, but writing interesting recruitment and research missions... It just won't take off! Any hints, ideas or pointers you can give me, to help me write interesting, fun and scary social missions would be appreciated. _________________ No! | If full-blown social missions are tough for you, try working them in from the side. Take the Rippers One Sheet Harvest Home. There are a number of social aspects to it with recruitment possibilities, but that's not really its focus. Just start sneakin' that in like peas under your mashed potatoes, and one day you'll find a big plate of green spheres waitin' for you at the table. (Which, I might add, could require a shotgun if they aren't actually peas.) |

You can also add in a sort of "enemy of my enemy is a friend" type situation. When I ran Harvest Home I had the group bump into a recurring villain who was also a guest at the party. They had to fight side by side with an enemy at the end. Added a nice dynamic.
But to your point I usually work in combat at some point. In social adventures it's easy to have the characters weaponless. Combat with candle sticks and frying pans can be very entertaining. _________________ When I told Dad I was scared of the thing in my closet he gave me a .45! - Sam |

I bet it did. That's always a fun twist to throw into an adventure. Especially if someone creates an opening to dispose of the enemy (or get disposed of by the enemy); suddenly showing character grown, senses of honor, or slowly burring the hatchet. _________________ "Got a problem?
