I ran a Star Wars Showdown game at our local HMGS mini-con, er, over a year ago and am finally getting around to putting the pictures up!
The game used my Star Wars conversion and my Tatooine scenery. It was a 3 way game - Rebels vs Imperials vs Bounty Hunters. The were trying to move a spy off planet for interrogation. The Rebels wanted to capture him back and the Bounty Hunters wanted to capture him for their own.
Everyone had a great time - and we got the best compliment possible - one of the guys running the con asked us to be quieter! Seems we were having too much fun!

That's awesome and it sounds like it was a great game! Congratulations on your compliment too!
If you have any conversion notes written up on it, I'd love to see it. |

Great stuff! I certainly enjoyed playing your G.I. Joe Showdown game a few Strategicons ago! Alas, I now live in Portland, OR, so the chances of us playing more in the future are much less than before. _________________ DAVROS: ‘Tar Lubek Ka’leed, Uth Ricta Dal’ek.’ Roughly translated, it means: ‘And on that day, men will become like gods.’ (I, DAVROS: GUILT) |

| I like the old Battlestar Galactica Cylon fighter in the bottom left of the 1st picture. Seems to fit right in with the rest of the spaceport... |

Thunderforge - I took my old website down and haven't put my Star Wars Showdown page back up, but my unit cards are up at BoardGameGeek. Here's a link: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/36172/star-wars-showdown?
Ogma - Thanks! Yeah, you and the other guys made that GI Joe/First Person Shooter game a lot of fun. Sorry(Glad?) to hear you moved to Portland. Hope you're enjoying it. I'm not in LA at the moment either - I'm deployed to Iraq. I've been here since May and will come home in March.
Lysander - Well done! Next time I play I should probably surround it with Super Battle Droids. They're a pretty decent proxy for the new BSG Cylons. I've also got a Viper on the board ... _________________ Check out my Star Wars Showdown! conversion: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/36172/star-wars-showdown |

Does anyone have star wars unit lists for the current Showdown rules?
I've never used the Showdown rules that came out years ago - but when I just typed the stats from these Star Wars units (from Big Juju) into the new XL form (from the current peginc site), the points came out WAY smaller.
Either I'm using the XL sheet wrongly or the rules have changed since 2008.
Can anyone help me figure out which?
Or share some more detailed army lists for me to judge by?
Thanks! |

Hey Big Juju, I wanted to thank you for those Star Wars troop stats. I've been using them for games with friends and really enoying them. I particularly liked how through thematic choice of edges you give the units character- like how the hoth trooper comes out as really good at holding ground.
I wrote some Star Wars Showdown stats for vehicles (farther down this same forum, heavily based on John Brown's work on RPG stats then viewed through Showdown lens) a while back, and now I'm working on a bigger scenario which will involve an At At walker supported by 2 AtSts versus defending artillery and airspeeders.
I wanted the Harpoon and tow cable to be a valid tactic, but not the only valid tactic versus the AtAt and not a sure-fire win. I was thinking the gunner of the airspeeder needs to hit with a -4 size modifier on the harpoon shot, then the pilot needs to actually fly around the At At, which to do in 2 turns would take two piloting -2 rolls (for >90 degree turning). If they cut the cable there, the AtAt pilot just has to make a simple piloting check. For every sucessful turn around the AtAt after that will add a -2 to the AtAt pilot's check, so they get the tactically interesting choice of wether to keep turning or risk their hard work being wasted. |

zeke023 - I designed my Star Wars Showdown units using the older version of Showdown. The rules really haven't changed, but the points structure has. When I get around to it I'll update the units lists. When I get around to it - which might be awhile. I'd suggest changing Stormtrooper armor to maybe 2 and Blast Helmet and Vest to maybe 1. That'd even out things the lethality of units a bit.
DanDiamond - Glad you have had fun with my conversion! I really haven't had many chances to play with vehicles but I hope to be able to later this year. I'll give your vehicle stats a work out. You can see in my pictures I've got quite a few land speeders. I've been thinking about running a land speeder road race game! I was inspired by Chris FitzPatrick. He's got lots of cool pics of speeders he's made, modified, and painted along with some awesome terrain.

Thanks, Big Juju. You seem to be the only person who has posted Star Wars Showdown stats to the web.
Although it's helpful enough for now just to know that I'm using the equations properly. I'll look forward to your update whenever you get around to it.
I don't suppose you have any suggestions for using Stealth and Notice in Showdown? Perhaps to keep ranged attackers from targeting like in 40k stealth rules for Tao? |

Ogma --
If you can ever make it down to Eugene I can definitely hook you up with some Showdown with a (very) few of us that play down here. I'm trying to convince a group here at the store I hang at that Showdown would be a better-than-adequate ruleset for Mordheim/Necromunda as well some modern urban zombie skirmish. Not always succesful, but I do have a few friends that play (especially if I organize it). I know its a bit of a drive . . .
Anyway, I play at Evolution Games (damekshop.com) here in Eugene, and being a full-time teacher have little free gaming, but can make most Saturdays work with ease.

|
|
I just realized that the point values I used for the Star Wars vehicles probably aren't correct to compare with your troop stats, as I used the Pinacle excel file to compute those cost values. Is the point system you used the same as used on this Savage Showdown troop cost computing page? http://home.zoomtown.com/MightyCthulhu/swtroopbuilder/
I ask because I used the calculations on that link to make some modifications to your troop stats. Like I created a unit of rebel infantry with an attached light repeating blaster (matching the similar Stormtrooper squad you have) as I had a miniature for it. Were the point comutations compatable? The funny thing is I never notived troop vrs vehicle disparity because I would balance the few games we played both by troops and by vehicles. So troops for both sides would balance and they would have equivalent vehicles as well.
Incidentally, when recomputing please include a version with the units unchanged- my opinion is the armor values are good as they are, and they match the Brown Savage Star Wars stats too, which to my tase hits the right level of deadlyness vrs pulpiness for SW, crunch level, and playability. |

I hope the page I posted above is compatable, as I used that to slightly modify the commando card to create stats for a Rebel Commado Strike Leader for them to follow:
Rebel Commander Strike Leader (WC) 132 points
A:d6 Sm:d6 Sp:d8 St:d6 V:d6
Fighting d6 Shooting d6
Pace 8 Parry 5 Toughness 7
Hvy Blaster Pistol 10/20/30 2d8AP2
Blast vest+helmet (+2 armor)
Fleet Footed: +2 pace +d10 running die
Command: Allies in 5" are +1 to recover from shaken
Hold the line!: Troops under command are +1 toughness |

this site is awesome!
The only thing it lacks is the ability to insert your own weapons (but with the point values listed, it's easy to equate).
This is great stuff! |
