I've been using the various adventure deck cards from the free downloads section of the site during my Savage Worlds Deadlands campaign and last session, one of my players used the Snake Oil salesman card. They happened to be in the middle of exploring a semi-abandoned silver mine when the player used the card.

Thinking quickly, I decided to use the Generous Salesman from the Feast of Famine one sheet as I had used him for a session prior to the campaign, most of the characters already knew him and I felt it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to show up in the mine.

One of the players quickly asked for a gatling shotgun and the dark recesses of my mind began scheming immediately. Very Happy

Anyway, I'd like some input on how I should stat out the shotgun. Currently it functions exactly like the normal gatling shotgun, with a 1 on the shooting die causing the crazy suppression fire in a circle like most hand held gatling weapons do. The bad side effect I have occurring, is that for each round fired by the gatlling shotgun, that many regular shotgun rounds become duds. To track it I just keep track of how many rounds have been shot by the weapon and when a character uses a normal shotgun, that round is a dud and I mark it against those that have been shot by the gatling shotgun.

Is having the gun automatically reload itself a good power for the relic or course only if regular shotgun shells were close by in the hands of allies?

I don't want to give it better aim or more damage as the character has a high shooting skill already, but it should be somewhat special. Any input would be appreciated.

First, I'm tickled to hear of actual reports of the Generous Salesman in use. It warms the cockles of my heart, and I've got some mighty big cockles...

Automatic reloads, even when the gun is plainly otherwise out of ammunition, seems pretty good to me. If you threw in never jams, that'd be just awesome.

I think an easy way to handle the "drains your buddy's guns" effects would be to consider all the affected weapons to be El Cheapo gear (misfires with a 1 on the Shooting die).

Another option might be to have it engraved "The Final Word," guaranteed to be the gun that puts 'em down. In that case, a good drawback might be that once someone's been shot in anger by The Final Word, he's immune to other gunfire, possibly even other normal damage, until the next new moon. [Seriously, what is it with the Generous Salesman and the new moons?] Sure, you're a danger, but you best be a quick danger! [As a side note, any of you posse looking for bullet-proofin' would probably be a TN 2 to shoot, just standing there willin' to take it. All that closer to a raise...]

Yet another option is to make it clear that this gun will exceed your wildest dreams...because you ain't got any now. I'd consider the unsettling nature of a pointed lack of dreams to be equivalent to Bad Dreams with a bonus Quirk related to it (bloodshot baggy eyes, twitchy, constantly asking about everyone else's dreams, and so on).

Of course, all the attention such a fine firearm is likely to draw in the Weird West would probably be pretty problematic all on its own. The kind of people who come lookin' for it are likely to be dangerous, determined, or both.

That's what the top of my head has to offer. I'm sure you'll get some other good suggestions, too.

The very second thing I thought of was having The Generous Salesman appear at the use of the Snakeoil Salesman card myself, so it's interesting to see just how other people might use that idea, as well. I haven't run Feast of Famine yet, but I loved the Salesman idea and want him to show up a few times both before and after I finally do run it.
