| I am looking at running a hell on earth game for another group (after hearing about my deadlands game they wanted to know if I'd run hell on earth for them). One of the things I was thinking about was the super mutant table, I am somewhat inclined towards saying that if you take the super soldier edge any mutations you gain are on the super mutant table, on the reasoning that your body is amped and altered from the super soldier process. I am just curious what others think of this idea (I admittedly get some of the idea from the Incredible Hulk movies) |

I always let my players choose, and they tend to choose the super mutant table. Then again in D&D if there is a Deck of Many Things anywhere on the same plane of existence they want to draw from it... _________________ Ju Ju

What Super Mutant table?
There's the Mutation table (great fun), the Major Mutation table (junk, stay away), and Blessing's o' the Atom (pretty cool and thematic edges).
Regardless, HoE is a world of fun and I hope you have a blast with it. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

I had meant the major mutations table at the back of the book from Children O' the Atom, I take it you disapprove of it? |

I'm with Fuzy. You're better off letting them choose. The Major Mutation table is a quad edged sword. Some of the results are really cool and powerful, but most can just screw up your character. Sprouting wings or turning into a walking brick (literally) might not be everyone's cup of tea.
That said, feel free to tantalize them with the table. It can be a blast. The table can push people out of their normal comfort zones, which can lead to a better game and more enjoyable play. _________________ 28/12/09 Scooter just bought a Deadlands book... You'd be correct. That table is one of the worst-constructed in all of Deadlands.
- It is not thematic, as the description claims (and the original is).
- Most of what's on there is already on the original, with smaller drawbacks.
- Higher cards are not better, despite the prefacing text and the logic of Deadlands.
- Every interesting story/character thing the Major Mutation table does is done by the regular Mutation table, and is less crippling.
The order, abilities, and set-up of the Major Mutation table feel rushed, unplanned, and silly. The only thing that table does well is make it much more difficult for a character to be a survivor (which is already a problem in Hell on Earth).
And that's a weakness that only Sykers should need (especially Greenies, with their ability to have many different Arcane Backgrounds at once ).
Good luck. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Sounds like maybe a redesigned list might be a fun collective project for the forums : ) _________________ -The Real McCoy
