yeesh that's terrifying!
That’s a latte evil (yuk yuk yuk)
My latest task it to try and come up with monsters that signify the character's faults.
Originally I used the slender man because I found him much more creepy than the serpent people and I thought I could make easy lateral shift between one and the other.
But since then I've actually been toying with how they might be symbolic. After all a certain globe spanning fraternal order has been following them since their first adventure. Anyone could be a member (no face) and their reach seems to extend endlessly (long boneless arms).
With that in mind I've actually be thinking about how I might make more monsters that are an expression of the character's interior doubts and fears.
For my poor doctor, I've planned to have him begin to remember his childhood in the orphanage. As he begins to recover memories and experience encounters with That Other Place, he will start to understand why he was pegged to join the mysterious fraternal order in the first place: he is actually a magically powerful host body that is meant to be the next vessel for the order’s leader, Carl Sanford.
To that end I need to lay out a map of the orphanage and create some significant events that happened for him there as a child. I can then turn those events into schizophrenic episodes. I also need to answer the question he will inevitably ask: How did I get out of that situation and become a doctor?
