Hello All,

I've been laying low lately and writing away, but thought I'd pop up and say hello!

@taronstar: Thanks for the nice words, and welcome to the forums. Yes. We do have some secrets in store for you all! (And errors have been amendeded. Thanks!)

@theDevilofWormwood: Looking over Okko (which I wasn't familiar with), I'm confident you could use WotR to play it. (I want to track down those comics now, btw!)

@Raene82: Not much longer to wait now...

@Bill: We had so much stuff already crammed in there, we had to make decisions about which way we wanted to go with things. There is a more convuluted story to it all. Perhaps, if there's interest, I can write up some liner notes discussing some of the design/developmental concerns?

@Lord Lance: Prepare to set some coin aside. If you like our other stuff, I'm sure you're gonna dig WotR.

Regards,

Sean

Hello All,

I am exceptionally proud to announce the pre-order bundle special of Iron Dynasty: Way of the Ronin! This is a print + PDF offering.

You'll receive the much anticipated PDF of this book immediately, and receive the book when it reaches the warehouse.

Click here to order it now.

Iron Dynasty: Way of the Ronin is your definitive guide to oriental adventure in the mythical realms of Konoyo — lands wracked by war, abandoned by the gods, and assaulted by mysterious supernatural forces. Honor is all but lost. Will you seek to restore the Bright Empire, or revel in the opportunities this new age brings?

About Konoyo
The Known World is comprised of nine provinces, each with a unique personality all its own — from the twisted imperialism of Ikusa Kokoro, the hedonism of Hinote Shima, to the dark honor of Karasu Rokku.

Oriental Action! Savage Style

For the Player
Over eighty New Edges enable you to design the Hero you wish to play. Will you be the Onmyoji who seeks to master magic and the elemental forces? The Ganso who heralds in the new age of the machine with every gear he crafts? The Ninja who uses his stealth to slay unseen? Or the Warrior who carves out his destiny by developing his own fighting style? Choose one of the included Paths, or use them to inspire your boundless imagination.

For the Sensei
Details of the world are at your fingertips, with every locale on the Map delineated. Seven Campaign Frameworks with accompanying Story Arcs enable you to get a game going right away. Robust Adventure and Creature Generators, along with a complete section on People and Beasts found in Konoyo, leave you wanting for nothing.

This setting requires the Savage Worlds core rulebook for play.

Purchased!

Now I just need some time to read and enjoy. Thanks for all the hard work you put into finishing this and getting it out to your loving and impatient fan-base. I can't wait to tell the group we can start building characters.

Woot! Hope you dig it.

I'm just hitting "The Known World" now and I am enjoying it.

I was planning on taking your crunch and using it in a setting of my own but after the history in the front part I'm thinking I'll use your world. It inspires my imagination quite a bit.

I'll probably give more thoughts after I've finished my first read through.

A lot of work went into sorting all the specifics out of Konoyo while presenting the Sensei with a lot of options to tailor the game to his group. I'm glad it's firing you up!

Please do! I'd love to hear what you do with it.

Well I've finally hit the end and must say I'm still impressed. The history in the front gave me a wonderful idea of the type of oddities that happen in this world. That's where a lot of my inspiration seems to start.

As I read through the new edges and the gear I kept getting more excited with the anime style feel coming out of it. After all my original interest in this came from a question about a long ago Anime Powers book I found mention of. I especially liked the herbalist edge but that's probably because I've got a thing for the uses of herbs in my games.

The gear and the like were the standard fare but with one difference I really appreciated. There are several pages of images showing what the different armors and weapons look like. It really helps me get an appreciation for the appearance which in turns helps inspire me a bit more in my character creations.

The reputation system was a nice setup to give the players a reason outside of peoples reactions to seek a high/low reputation. And it's attachment to the dueling rules seemed smooth enough. As for dueling I was a little dissapointed in it's simplicity compared to deadlands card system but I can't think of an easy gimic that would fit the oriental setting so it will do. While the dueling mechanic wasnt as flashy though the effects on reputation and the descriptions of all the workings of the duel itself were very well done.

"The Known World" is a nice little primer on the various races and groups but the stuff I like is behind the Sensei's Secrets. The descriptions of areas and the helpful rumours associated mixed with a dose of the random generators make it so easy to just grab an idea and roll it into a neat little package. Of course I've enjoyed the random generators in these books since I started using the one in the Realms of Cthulhu book when I'm dry for ideas.

Moving on towards the end I was pleased to find some info on the Kikai though to tell you the truth I'm really not a huge fan of them. They are interesting ideas but I doubt the'd really make that much of a showing in the stories I run. Perhaps I'm too much of a fan of the complicated mecha types to appreciate the Mighty Kikai's simplicity.

The last part of the book was probably one of my favorite parts. A collection of mystic relics which have so much rumour potential. They hint at an even deeper backstory to the world at large while leaving it open enough to manuever however I might want in my games.

Well I suppose that's my thoughts on the book. Now I'm going to start crafting an adventure for my Kesshi to enjoy.

Thanks for this great book Sean. I look forward to many more.

Is there a rough idea as to when the hard copy version will be available?

How about now? We didn't see any real reason to keep you from sharing in the fun!

Click here to get it from our store.

It's also available at DriveThruRPG!

The hard copy is slated to release in December.

It's worth noting that the pre-order bundle is only $30. I realized an error had been made on the bundle pricing, so have refunded everyone who purchased it yesterday.

The book retails for $25, so you can get the PDF right away for only $5 more and check it out while you're waiting on your physical copy!

Regards,

Sean

I'm starting to put together some NPC's for my first game and noticed that I couldn't find an easy way to have a shadow double for a ninja. I see that Ninjas tend to have Shadow Arts which could be used to describe a trick of sorts that included a shadow double but I'm not sure how well that would work.

So I suppose the question is how would you have a ninja and his shadow double?

I take it you're referencing this:

A quick scan to the left reveals the ninja’s shadow double is hit center-of-mass and disappears, and we see the actual ninja drop down behind him, striking him in a nerve cluster that paralyzes instantly.

Ninja Strike (which has Shadow Arts as the prerequisite) is the most effective way of handling this. (And is viable within the context of the setting, and the mystical nature of ninja in general.) The shadow double, as presented, is meant to be there for just an instant, almost like a shaping of the shadow, and not something that lingers about. Neat trick, eh?

Regards,

Sean
