Hi all -
Just discovering SW and really excited to get going after perusing the Test Drive v6. What's the actual core rules? Is it Explorers Edition? (Or is that a variant/player's version of the core rules?) |

The Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition is the most current version of the rules, called the "Explorer's Edition" primarily because it's a softcover. (You can find an entry for the Explorer's Edition here on the Studio 2 site.)
Also, the "Pirates of the Spanish Main RPG" and "Savage World of Solomon Kane" books are special in that in addition to containing information relevant to their respective settings, they also include the basics of the Savage Worlds rules, character creation, etc. However, they limit themselves to whatever is relevant to the setting, and include some tweaks appropriate to the genre.
So, for instance, since Pirates of the Spanish Main isn't a setting where heroes can be spellcasters, they don't bother getting into "Arcane Backgrounds," and the Solomon Kane book has an entirely different way of treating magic (more ritualistic and time-consuming, rather than D&D-ish instant fireballs) that's introduced instead of the core rules "Power Point" system. _________________ Pirates RPG Fan Material: http://greywolf.critter.net/pirates.htm

To be honest (don't tell anyone), the friendliness and helpfulness of the Savages is a large part of why SW is such a great game... But they don't write that in the rules... _________________ Garden of Athena

| If you want to play fantasy with SW then you could also find the Fantasy Companion very handy. |

I second the Fantasy Companion. If you buy that, "You'll be glad you did!" _________________ Dean: "Ya' know she could be faking."

[Dean nods]
Sam: "Dude, you're not gonna poke her with a stick?"

| About to purchase the Explorer's Edition core rules. Do y'all know if there's a difference in editions or printings of the book? e.g. might one printing have certain errata that others don't? |

Third printing is the way to go, as it includes all the current errata and new Incapacitation/Injury Tables. _________________ Ron Blessing

If you're getting a print copy, the easy way to tell is that the third printing has an index in the back. You can also see it on the title page, but that's how I always check.
EDIT: Robert beat me to it! |
