Other than dealing a Joker, when do you guys re-shuffle the deck? After every encounter? Or do you actually wait until a Joker is dealt (regardless of how many encounters have passed).

I never shuffle. That is what players are for.
But they shuffle after Jokers only, whenever they may come up, whether in initiative or in some other aspect of the game. |

I don't reshuffle until a Joker is drawn.
Admittedly, as I use the deck for determining other random things, this skews probability a little. Determining the personality of a random minor NPC, for example, using the deck might make it more likely that a joker be drawn (as it would reduce the remaining number of cards in the deck). _________________ My Conversions:

Same here. Even if I'm flipping cards for other reasons, it's only a Joker triggers a shuffle. _________________ Wiggy

Wait; does this mean that you all only shuffle after Jokers? I've always shuffled after Jokers and after each encounter. Is that right? _________________ The Loremaster

I guess I should include my reasoning for shuffling only after a Joker is dealt.
Basically, if you shuffle after every encounter, rather than waiting for the Joker, you reduce the chances a Joker will come up. Considering there are multiple Edges which rely on Jokers coming out, this seems like a bum deal for players who took the Edges. Those Edges don't get enough use as it is.
Plus, when a Joker comes out, it usually provokes a reaction from the players, and this is always Good Stuff (TM). _________________ Ron Blessing

Oh, wow. I've been doing it completely wrong, then.
I've always done a quick reshuffle after every round of combat.
No wonder I've hardly ever had a Joker pop up.
I like they idea of using two decks, though. Think I'll give that a shot- along with only shuffling after a Joker... _________________ Is a man ruled by his own free will, or is he a composite of all his experiences, his education and heredity?

Trained??? How do you go about training Players?!? I can't get my players to stop "boffing" each other with miscellianious items! I had to take a map away from one the other day. My dog is better trained then that bunch...

Once I can get the training thing down I'll have to do this. _________________ When I was a child I used to run around with a towel tied around my neck pretending to be "Super Eddy". Now that I am older and have grown more mature I no longer run around with a towel... I now have a REAL cape!

| I constantly shuffle. I love playing with cards. Even between rounds I'll shuffle the cards that haven't been drawn yet often times. I'll shuffle the discards back in when a Joker is drawn and between combats. |

I shuffle after a Joker only if I'm at least 1/2 way through the deck.
Recently I pulled a Joker for the Baddies and on the following round one of the PCs drew a Joker, then I shuffled.

I only shuffle after a joker for the players. Shuffling more often would reduce the chances of a joker showing up. I used to give the players their own deck to shuffle, but that took too long for my tastes. In the interests of speeding things up, I switched to just having ONE deck of cards, on MY side of the table.
I put cards out in front of me for each of the players (and for the bad guys, of course), and when the joker comes up, I can give the deck a quick and sloppy shuffle and move on with it. I don't really care if it's "properly" shuffled; all that really matters is that neither I nor anyone else knows what card is going to come up next. _________________ Pirates RPG Fan Material: http://greywolf.critter.net/pirates.htm

We shuffle the round after a joker has been drawn and I always shuffle during set-up. Every once in a while we still have shuffles that destroy the laws of statistics...during one of our last runs we had five jokers drawn in three rounds. During a fight with a wild card.
Yeah. That was awesome! _________________ Kevin Rohan, Content Director

On the up side, this is how it's handled in Showdown (the free miniatures version of Savage Worlds).
So if someone was giving you a hard time tell them you'll switch back to the rpg way of doing it instead of the minis way. _________________ Norm "No Relation" Hensley |
