I just did read the fan license and it mentions the SRD but I can not find it. Searched the forum too.
Thx a lot for the link |

There is no mention of an "SRD" in the fan license at all. Did you read the one posted here...

I stuck to long in D&D 3.5, sorry
As I understand something like http://www.d20srd.org/ is not possible with the fan license, since you allow only references to the core rule books?
On the other hand PCGen has to permission to use your stuff for their charakter generator -> http://www.pcgen-test.org/wiki/index.php?title=PCGen_Support_for_Savage_Worlds
And this is much more than a reference to the core rule books
In fact my group turns away from WOTC/D&D4 since their SRD is not worth to mention it (especially compared to the 3.5SRD). |

Correct, that would not be allowed.
Again, correct, as noted on their site, they received specific permission for their purposes. _________________ Clint Black

Maybe I'm speaking "wrongly", but there is a free Savage World Test Drive, that is almost a free ruleset. Maybe you can refer to that, or use it freely in your group.
Or, do you need to insert all the SW:EX rules in a product you are writing?? |

Nono, I just thought about creating my own charakter generator or even SRD for for Savage Worlds, since it has a strong community and loyal fans. (And PCGen seems not to include SW in a longer time and the excel generator I found was just revised edition and full of bugs).
I always like the "for fans by fans" attitude, especially when supported by the company. And it's not like I would not buy products..just bought yesterday the revised Zombie Setting |

Well, you can't create a SRD for Savage Worlds without Pinnacle Entertainment's permission. No licensee, fan or commercial, can reprint copyrighted material without the copyright holder's permission. That means the SWEX and any Setting Rules that Pinnacle also has in the products, all the way down to any new rules, Edges, Hindrances, et cetera in a licensee product (which is all copyright that licensee).
Whereas d20 is Open Gamign Content, Savage Worlds is a closed license and not OGL.
Hope that helps some. _________________ Lee F. Szczepanik, Jr.

Ah, thats sad. I thought, because of the many free downloads and quick start rules they would be more open to fan devotion.
But no problem, I will not break any copyright rules...just wanted to ask. I'm just into roleplay AND computers and can not think of a good system without (selfmade) support in the computer. And when I made something good I just want to share (for free of course). That's all |

Oh, I wasn't worried about that at all, my friend. I doubt anyone else was, either. I just wanted to chime in since you seemed a little confused (and mentioned a familiarity with the OGL) before you did something that would have gotten ya in trouble with Pinnacle or a licensee. _________________ Lee F. Well, I saw some character generator, but I think they are well tollerate, 'cause if you insert a list of Edge titles, without inserting the full test of their mechanics, you can do it. And I think there are no problems if your character generator automatically add +1 to the Thoughness whenever I select "Tough" from the list of the Edges.
PS: if you are planning to do this one in Excel, please, use OpenOffice Calc instead! |
