I'm planning on using mostly Star Wars, with some Horrorclix, Heroclix, Heroscape and others added in. The Kyrie of Heroscape especially make good Birdmen.

Anybody find anything good for lion men besides the ones above? I see some I like but $5 a mini is a bit rich for me.
 Of course, I could just use the figure flats I already purchased, but I want plastic too, dammit!

How about some good old-fashioned kitbashing?
Step 1: Find some cheap Clix minis, preferably some big, muscular types.
Step 2: Pay a visit to your local Warhammer Fantasy Battle players and see if anyone has a bunch of plastic Bretonnian knights - or, more specifically, the optional "bitz" left over from assembling them. One of the pieces is a "bull head" that, once you remove the horns, can do a passable job as a lion head, once you add a bit of putty for the mane.
Or, get some cheap plastic lions (from cheapo toy sets) and steal the heads. (In some craft stores I've seen "Toob" sets of safari animals; they're grossly out of scale with each other, but I've used these plastic animals with a bit of wire and putty to make conversions for my games.)
Step 3: Use a hobby knife to cut off the heads and swap (and keep the removed pieces in your "bitz box" just in case they're ever useful for something). If you have a pinning drill, that would be preferable for getting a good, solid attachment. Failing that, just make sure both cutting surfaces are flat, use some super glue, and optionally a bit of putty (either the green stuff or my favorite, Magic Sculp {sic}) to fashion a mane.
Step 4: If you have a pinning drill, drill a hole in the back side and then insert a piece of wire (such as from a straightened-out paperclip) and clip to length to make a tail. With a bit of putty, you can make a tuft.
Step 5: Paint to taste, and optionally put on a new base (such as a Games Workshop Slottabase, or one of the knockoffs manufactured by various other miniatures makers ... or, a washer).
This is pretty much what I did when I needed to have some "lion man" figures for a different game setting. Fortunately, I had gotten a bunch of Bretonnian Knight "bitz" as part of an exchange for painting someone else's miniatures, so I had enough of those heads to make the conversions. (Basically, on the Bretonnian Knights sprues, there are optional helmets for the knights, with elaborate crests on top: one of the crests resembles a bull with an orb suspended between its horns. The proportions are such that it makes for a passable leonine head in a pinch.)
