|
|
A player in my Ripper:Bombay Lodge wishes to learn Ambidextrous.
Its a Background Edge. He has Twofisted (and Sweep), so he is a big meatgrinder. But Im Ok with it, but would like to build a short adventure around it, not only saying: OK, you get it.
So I thought about how a Ripper could learn/train the Ambidextrous Edge in Bombay 1894. It should be short, I have planed some short Character-centered adventrues for the others. Only one or two Characters in a Scene, to portray the character
I tought about a old Samurai/secret Master living somewhere in the Jungle, or in the Slums. Finding him and then a combat test "fight against my pupil to see if you are worthy!" would be the adventure.
Any other ideas? |

I just force a hero to use his off-hand for several adventures to prove he is training. Yep, he gets the penalties for not being Ambidextrous, but it shows he is practising. If he makes three off-hand attacks per combat for 2-3 adventures, I deem him worthy _________________ Wiggy

Alternatively...he could fight an undead Samurai and in triumph implant some of his brain into his own in order to gain the edge...and give up some reason.

So, do it the way you were originally planned. The wise retired Samurai master is on a mountaintop or somesuch (union rules). There's a helluva struggle to get there.
Once there, he assigns <quest>. Beating a worthy adversary, perhaps part of your overall plot, in single combat.
Party completes quest, trundles BACK up to mountaintop, where the wise samurai master then reveals his secret: he tells him to use his offhand attack at least three times a fight for a couple adventures, per Wiggy's idea.
Wise Samurai masters or what-have-you know the only path to power and knowledge is hard work. And they like to dash a youngster's false hopes of a quick fix to to smash arrogance and to get the apprentice into the proper mindset for actually learning something.
For extra evil laughs, describe a training-montage like sequence after the quest completion before the Master dramatically leans close and reveals the "secret."
Enjoy! _________________ Ceci n'est pas une signature. |

He has used his offhand with a second sword (with two-fisted) the last two games. |

That sounds very nice. that could be usefull and get them to use Rippertech, especially as they meet a Rippertech-specialist the last adventure. |

Nice but not the brain, he has to replace his hand. There is something just more creepy about cutting off a perfectly good hand. |
