Hello!

Whilst I wait for my authorization into the TriAce Forum, I wanted to ask a few questions for Wiggy - or any responsible grown-up resposible for this grown-up setting: #gunbattle

1. (Having not read the book in it's entirety yet, however), it seems that there are no other Faiths in Salus. Why? Where are the Ba'hais, Jews, Protestants, Buddhists, etc? Where they all "purged"? Was this a thing that came from Earth already or, is this inimical to Salus? Surprised

2. Do people from other faiths have access to miracles specifick to the setting (ie. their own versions of the Litanies)?

3. A bit fuzzy about the Church's various revisions, er-- "Reformations". When & why was the First one done, for instance?

4. Where you inspired by "The Sacred & the Profane" comic from Marvel's Epic Illustrated mag (an 80s thing Dean Motter wrote)? If not, you should definitely check this saga out! Twisted Evil

Thanks

There are no other faiths on Salus. See the history in Necropolis:
2149: First Reformation Church brings together mankind’s religious beliefs. New age of peace begins.

First 2149, Second 2201.

When you say "no other faiths," you also need to include Catholics. The Third Reformation Church may use Catholic trappings and titles (for familiarity, nothing else), but it is most definitely not Christian. God is God. God is not Jesus.

The Earth faiths of the 21st century (all of them) began to go away during the First Reformation Church and totally vanished in the Second Reformation Church.

The main reason for this was one of game focus. The game is about holy knights againt the backdrop of an alien species and the Corporations. Add in additional faiths, and it raises questions of what they are doing to help the war effort and why does the TRC tolerate them. That would have left the TRC less omnipresent. Having the TRC as the dominant faith becomes very important as the story of mankind's future unfolds.

Oficially, there are no other faiths. Naturally, you can add them into your game. In which case, I'd say yes, give them Litanies.

It's deliberately vague Smile Here are three excerpts from the forthcoming Necropolis Showdown that give slightly more detail...

"By 2149 Earth’s disparate religions had joined together to form the First Reformation Church, an unpopular title for a council which created far more problems than it solved. Still, religious wars ceased as mankind looked toward the heavens in awe and wonder."

"After three years of destruction, the war ended. No one had won—the nations were either too ravaged or too poor to continue the feuding. Out of the ashes rose the Second Reformation Church, a religious body who placed God (regardless of name) above all else. Religious practices from across the globe were amalgamated into a new, universal faith. With most governments long since destabilized, the Church became the de facto ruler of Earth in 2206." [It was formed in 2201.]

"Back on Earth, meanwhile, hard line cardinals began a religious civil war. Two years later, the corpse of the Second Reformation Church had been swept aside. In its position rose the Third Reformation Church, ruled over by Pope John XXIV.

This was no peace–loving, universal deity faith, but a throwback to the Middle Ages where the Church ruled supreme. The Pope’s words echoed through what remained of mankind’s star empire—“One God, One Church, One Doctrine.” Those six little words reversed a thousand years of progress in a heartbeat.

Overnight, the Church labeled any religion different to its own as heretical. Frightened citizens flocked to the Church, happy to throw away their former beliefs and seek solace and protection in the arms of Mother Church. Like a good mother, the Church welcomed back her wayward children whilst simultaneously punishing those who chose to think for themselves.

Modern readers should note that the faiths we know today, such as Buddhism, Christianity (Catholic or Protestant), Islam, and Judaism, had long since ceased to exist. They had been consumed, chewed up, and regurgitated into the doctrinal mess of the Second Reformation Church. They were not heresies to the new faith—they were distant memories."

No, I wasn't. Was never a big comic fan. Tha biggest influence was Aliens (the movie), followed by the emerging WH40K. Necropolis began as "marines vs. undead fighting over some planets" back in the early/mid-90s, but by the time SW appeared on the gaming scene my vision had changed somewhat thanks to a renewed interest in history.

Hello!

Thanks a lot for the answers, they really helped!

To me, this seems a bit TOO far-fetched (yeah, we're discussing a Scifi RPG about Undead! #1eek13 ), so I will WM it as if some of Old Earth religions which survived the purge are deemed "heretical cults" in Salus. Thus, tweaking the setting towards a "darker" (the heart of darkness within Humanity) feel - ie. Mankind still hasn't left "old habits" behind, at least in Salus. Maybe there are other parts in space (colonies perhaps?), where different religions have achieved harmony.

A new query:
You say that the 3RC doesn't believe in Jesus as the Son of Gawd, but then why have the gospels included in it's "bible"? The Necro setting book quotes extensively from the realworld bible & some of the quotes are from the gospels.
Or are these only "aphorisms" taken from a myriad sources, constructing a new "3RC bible"? Or something else? Very Happy

Also, the pope's supposed to be "Christ's vicar" on earth... So do these 3RC popes answer to Gawd directly instead?

Thanks for the kind answers

The Bible quotes were included for a few reasons, but none specifically refer to the 3RC's doctrine Smile They're for the reader.

Some serve to give added flavor to a chapter. Others are included for irony (such as "Blessed are the peacemakers..." in the Gear section, which is predominently about stuff designed to kill). A few, like the Setting Rules' "Let all things be done decently and in order" just fit what the chapter is about and serve as a sort of introduction.

There's only been one 3RC pope so far. He claims to speak directly to Gawd.
