Recently we had a character death in our Deadlands group. Lack of preparation on the players' part, and wicked dice rolls on my part (as Marshall) ended with Reverend Joshua Shaw dead. (He ain't comin' back either. We drew cards and no Jokers)

The player eulogized him at RPGnet.

Pretty cool. And sad Crying or Very sad *

*I mean sad in a "it sucks I wont get to have him in the story anymore, he was a great character" way; not a "this guy is an obsessive loser" way.

I've not read the eulogy, but I can tell you that Savage Worlds has been the only game in recent memory I was really bummed about a character's death.

Usually I'm pretty devil may care about rpg characters, and desire to roll up a new one with every new miniature I come across, but this time I had invested a little more. With the Edges and Hindrances, a great campaign, great crew of players, and GM to match, I found I got a little more attached to the character than I had since I was a teenager, and we're goin' way back.

I'll check out the eulogy, but I don't think I'll be surprised very much by it.

I thought it was cool to post a snippet like that, having read it, and found it not to be a two page eulogy. 'Didn't appear to be so out there as the casual reader might infer.

We've had such a moment too once, with 7th Sea. On Halloween no less! One of our players was enticed to go look behind a door in a sinking ship. While the rest of us fled, he was too curious to see where the door lead to. Then imagine the mysterious enticer was in fact Legion (aka The Devil) himself! You know where that door leads to ...
Anyway, when the player had to pass his sheet to the GM, a silence fell upon the group. Everyone was sad, and later on one player sent out mourning letters to all other players.
