This is in the very early stages, and is primarily aimed more at Scottish (and our southern English neighbor) fans.
There is a small gaming community on Shetland and we're in the very early stages of organizing a get-together. Calling it a convention may be stretching things a little...
What I'm trying to find out at this stage is whether any UK Savages would even consider attending for a one (maybe two) day get-together.
It would likely be autumn/winter, when the ferry prices drop to more sensible levels.
Getting here can be expensive unless you catch the overnight ferry, which naturally might rule out many who would consider it otherwise. For Yanks (and indeed most other folk), the costs would be astronomical unless you just happen to be in the region of Aberdeen and fancy 12 hours on a ship in storm-wracked seas.
There's no real benefits to mainlanders coming all this way, other than the chance to game with the locals and maybe swag a prize or some freebies (I'll be talking to Simon about this). Of course, I'm also very likely to tell any attendees about some secret, future projects as a bonus
Anyway, all I'm after is a general yay or nay from the Scots on the forum. Others may "yay" or "maybe" if they want, but I'll assume the vast majority of answers will be "no" or "where?"

I would love to make it part of our autumn/winter hollidays. My girlfriend and I work during the summer hollidays so we usually take a break in the autumn or winter. We have long talked about going to see Scotland and the Shetlands.
Let me know when you have a more precise date...

I second this as well...while things aren't quite stable enough for us here yet to afford a vacation...one place we always wanted to goto was Scotland, so a side trek to Shetland for a get together would be good for us...
And 'sides, also gives us an excuse to do some relational type visiting with my family in the UK...make it a proper holiday _________________ Vincent Kingston

Well, it would be far more affordable for me than a trip to any US-based Con, so I might keep an eye one this, too. _________________ "If you think I'm crazy, you should see the people I'm locked up with." - Steamdriven

Best bet is to fly into Aberdeen if you can, then either fly to Shetland (good buses into town from the airport) or catch the ferry from Aberdeen straight into the capital. Off the ferry at 0730, game, back on by 1930 if you wanted
Wife and I are going back south soon to see the folks and attend GenCon UK. With special island-local discount, it still cost us nearly $1000 (not each) to get from here to Bristol (via Aberdeen).

No, not yet. We're hoping for three or four tables (yes, small con) and two games at each table during the day.
One Savage Worlds table for sure (prob. Maenoffren GMing--he doesn't know that yet), one probably d20 for the other gaming group I'm in, one for anyone else who wants to run a game of anything, and I might be allowed to use the fourth to playtest a future project I've been working on. (If not, I'll run some other SW). There is also a local Warhammer group, so we will likely invite them to join us for the day.
Have to arrange a committe meeting soon and get prices for a large room for the day. Two other guys are interested in helping arrange it, so we do have some progress.
Just a reminder, though, this will be a very small gathering and getting here can be expensive. Not trying to put anyone off--just keeping things in context
The current plan is a one-day event. This allows folk to travel up on the boat, game for about 8-10 hours, and then catch the boat home to Aberdeen that night.
IF it all goes ahead, then we're hoping Simon will join us as well. We're also hoping to get some SW goodies to give away or auction off for charity, but won't know until after GenCon UK.

Well I could get there a couple days early.
Besides, I've heard stories about you and the ponies. I've got to see if they're true. _________________ Mark Swafford
