DEADLANDS CHARACTER GENERATOR - Version 1.0
I have now created a DLR Character Generator in Excel. It works fairly solidly and should be 99% to 100% error free. It is only designed for DLR, although it could possibly be used to create some basic SW's characters in a pinch. It largely makes automatic calculations for edges & hindrances.
I have gone with a "points" approach to creating the characters which I think works well but I guess I'll see how others feel it works.
The sheet consists of 7 worksheets (the tabs at the bottom left for you non-excel lingoists.)
Worksheets:
Creation: This is where you choose all your Attributes, Edges, Hindrances, Skills and Powers. The only important thing to note, is that Edges do not check to see if the Pre-requisites for the selected edge have been met (other than rank). A future version of this sheet will likely display which pre-req's have not been met.
Gear: Here you can buy gear, weapons and ammunition.
Summary: This is the printable summary for the character which can double as a character sheet.
Edges: This is just a reference sheet, allowing you to scan through the available edges and their brief descriptions, and are sorted in a variety of ways.
Hindrances: This is just a reference sheet, allowing you to scan through the available hindrances and their brief descriptions.
Powers: This is just a reference sheet, allowing you to scan through the available powers and their brief descriptions, and are sorted in a variety of ways.
Data: This sheet pulls in all the data for the spreadsheet to work. Its an ugly mess and well shows my work in progress as I began learning all the needed codes and functions that makes Excel work so well. (In short, I'm a beginner to intermediate Excel user and this sheet really tested my knowledge).
I invite all interested parties to download the sheet and let me know how it works for you. Please let me know if you find any errors or have any suggestions.

Version 1.1
Revised the character summary into a character sheet. Next version will allow you to select from all gear and weapons available in DLR.

Version 1.2
Added selectable gear on a new worksheet. Tweaked the character sheet, including re-enabling the powers to display which I apparently broke on Version 1.1

Fixed Edges not showing up as modifiers under appropriate traits.
Increased price of Gatling pistol to $800. (For some reason people thought .08 cents was too cheap?)
Attractive Edge now shows as "Attractive" under Charisma, as opposed to "Weapon Master".

Version 1.4
Fixed commas not showing up between Edges and Hindrances listed as trait modifiers on the Character Summary. (And commas showing in places they shouldn't).
Changed the weight of dynamite to .5 lbs.

Version 1.5
Several little tweaks on things I noticed (A couple hindrances not flagging right, Edges check for rank requirement was broke, etc). Also I buggered up Kung Fu / Chi Mastery pretty good -- its all fixed now.
Also, as requested, an option for making harrowed characters has been added.

Version 1.6
Fixed Intimidation skill calculation error, and allowed for Reputation to give a positive bonus for a negative Charisma.

Fixed a display error when Elderly Hindrance was chosen.
Changed how edges/hindrances display on the modifier areas of the Character Sheet.

Updated sheet as per recent Errata. Descriptions / stats affected: scattergun, whip, Eagle Claw, Wing Chung, Sanctify.
Weapon shot tracker now pulls up tracking markers for all 6 weapons, including weapons of only 1 shot.

Yep, next version I will be concentrating on converting the Character Summary pages into more of a Character Sheet, which will include areas for recording gear, weapons, armor, wounds and notes. Trying to do that all in 2 pages is going to be a challenge  |

You can now buy gear while making your character.
Did a few tweaks to the character sheet, including re-enabling powers to appear.
This spreadsheet is pretty much done now. |

Nicely done, orclord! I've already got my players using it to easily create their new DL characters.
Shameless enhancement request...
I did notice that taking the True Grit edge doesn't change the character's grit on the summary sheet. Any chance of an enhancement to your already monumental time saving excel sheet?  _________________

The True Grit thing seems to affect several of the Edges. Apparently, on the Data sheet, they are looking for references under the cells designated for Hindrances instead of the cells for Edges.
The Gatling pistol price is an easy fix. Just unprotect the Data sheet, and go down and enter the correct price. Resave the sheet, and it's set.
Edit: Hmm, I just realized if you take Attractive it lists the Charisma modifier on the sheet as "Weapon Master." I suppose you could look at it that way.
By the way, these are all extremely minor things compared to the obvious work that went into this sheet. Most impressive indeed. _________________ Clint Black

Thanks all for taking a look at the sheet and putting it through its paces. Dang Gremlins seemed to have gotten into my sheet!
I try to test most everything so I can't believe I missed some of those glaring errors.
New sheet is available for download. (Version 1.3).
Gatling Pistol will no longer be sold at the Nickel & Dime store.
Attractive people will now have to rely on their looks to impress people rather than their big shiny gun / knife.
All the Edges that affect certain traits should now show up in the appropriate modifier area. (I really butchered that part).
Thanks again all for catching those glitches. |

I fixed a few minor things, and did a major fix on Chi Mastery Powers and Kung Fu Styles.
A harrowed character selection has been added. |

While using 1.6 to build a martial artist last night, I failed to find the "Superior Kung-Fu" edge. I know it has quite a few options of martial arts style, so addidng it with all its complexity might be onerous, but could you please add a placeholder Edge for it so the math works out ok.
Oh, and thanks tons for doing this character sheet. It makes my pregen prep for con games alot shorter and easier.

Hi Forlorn,
The Superior Kung Fu edge is there, but it won't show up until you have selected the "Arcane Background (Chi Mastery) edge. When you do select this edge, then all the different styles of the Superior Kung Fu edge will appear at the bottom of the list of Edges, under the header of "DL ARCANE EDGES". (In prior versions to 1.5, I really butchered the Chi Mastery area, but it should all be working now).

A thousands pardons, my fu is most inferior. I see it now. I have failed to grasp the macro from the hand of the master, and now need a Boot to the Head.
Again the sheet is great. I keep hoping that the Metacreator folks will do up the DLR rules, as I use their program for most of my other SW needs, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. A recent poll at the Metacreator site seemed to heavily favor Ars Magica updates/expansions before any DLR or rippers work.
