|
|
Short version:
I search a old free adventure were some sluglike monster could only be slain with rocksalt loaded in shotguns. I remembered the plot involved buying rocksalt for some indian brave to fight the monster, and Lost angeles enforcer, I think.
Someone remember this old adventure?
Wall of text version:
My young players (my son and some of his friends) surprised me again.
We played some starwars, some cyberpunk, even some necropolis.
They played mostly in the school vacations, staying overnight.
But since spring they didnt show interest in more roleplaying.
But last weekend some wont to play again, with no warning.
They show interest in steampunk, and started making charakters without knowing a setting or world. At first I showed them Space 1889, but they would like to play with arcane backgrounds. One of them created a indian brave, one of them a scholar of american cultur that comes from england to get first hand knowledge of the america.
So I changed the as yet unknown setting to deadlands. Of course they liked to start at once.
So I weave a tale where the scholar, with the indian as guide and some friend of the scholar went to visit some indian camp.
I remembered a very old deadlands adventure where a sluglike monster could onyl be defeated by rocksalt-shotguns loads.
The sluglike monster harrased some indian camp.
Based on my bad memory about adventure the friend of the scholar bought 30 pounds of rocksalt for some indian friend. On the way a sniper shot the packhorse, hoping they abandon the salt. Later They found indian bones and slugslime from the monster. Then we have to end...
And now I couldnt locate this damn adventure to draw more inspiration out of it.
Do someone remember this avdenture? |

Scroll down a bit to The Horse Eaters
Usually this sort of thing is pretty easy to find. It took about 10 seconds to google "Deadlands adventure salt" and just ignore all references to Salt Lake City and Pass the Salt. _________________ Playing: GURPS Pulp

Not until you made me want to have some.
Horse Eater: Reloaded (Wild Card)
Attributes: Agility d10, Smarts d6, Spirit d6, Strength d12+4, Vigor d12+2
Skills: Climbing d10, Fighting d10, Intimidation d8, Stealth d10, Swimming d10
Pace: 8, Parry: 7, Toughness: 10 (1)
Special Abilities:
Acid Touch: Powerful acid horribly disfigures victims. Naturally healing rolls for wounds from the horse-eater's natural weapons are at -2.
Armor +1: Rubbery Hide.
Claws & Teeth: Strength + d6.
Fleet-Footed: Has a d10 running die.
Invulnerability: Can only be Shaken by damage, never wounded (except for the Weakness).
Weakness: Salt; being in contact with it causes a Shaken result. Rock-salt shotgun loads do normal shotgun damage and can cause wounds.
Coup: Harrowed that absorb the horse eater's essence gain +1 armor and a craving for horseflesh. They also gain a vulnerability to salt - every round in contact with as little as a handful of salt requires a vigor roll versus Fatigue. _________________ "Got a problem? Thanks, cool.
I made one for myself, very similiar. My Horse eater had onyl strenght d12+1 and pace 4 but could choose to jump 1d6+2 inches instead of moving.
The phisical description is somewhat vague. I imagined it as sort of cross between snail, eel an and shark. |

Yeah, I'm not 100% on those stats. The only references I could find had classic stats with d20 for Strength and Vigor - which is supposed to be impossible in that system.
It also didn't list a size for the critter (so ... size 6?), left out claws and fangs (despite a prominence in the description), and had a really lousy collection of skills. But, the concept is just awesome.
A different direction is to use the stats of a Whately-Thing from The Flood (Night of the Caretaker savage tale). Drop the spellcasting, make it a Wild Card, and you should be good. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."
