|

Battlefield Press, Inc is raising funds for a science fiction campaign setting set in Stewart Cowley's Terran Trade Authority. This first book, The Proxima War written by Jonathan M. Thompson and Jeffery Lily, gives details from Earth's first contact to the aftermath of the war. Details will be presented on the military advances, the descriptions of the aliens and all the ships from the book Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD. The manuscript is unfinished, but a successful kickstarter will insure its completion. This is a new work, under a new license and has no connection to any previous similar works. When the kickstarter has ended successfully all backers ( available sometime after January 1, 2013 should they opt in) may have a copy of the work in progress to make comments upon, and playtest. We have also contacted Ian Stead who is known for his science fiction rpg art to do all the interiors. If you are not familiar with Ian's work it may be found here: http://biomassart.wordpress.com/. All backers, at all levels, will receive their name in the credits in this and all future editions of the Terran Trade Authority campaign setting. This kickstarter is to put together the final project and create the book.
More information about this project can be found at the kickstarter link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1292093911/terran-trade-authority-the-proxima-war-savage-worl _________________ Jonathan M. Thompson

I know his art is not for everyone, and that's ok. I hope you dont buy the book on the strength of the art alone. However, that said...these are examples of his work and not actually pieces that are going to be used in the game. I am hoping he agrees to do a couple without payment as closer examples of what is actually going to be in the book. Ian is a TTA fan, so I am hoping that his stuff is going to be more to your liking. Today I was notified that I am also getting some pieces from Adrian Mann, but he is not available to do the full book. _________________ Jonathan M. Thompson

I remember the original TTA books, and they were truly awesome. If the artwork does any justice to those, this will look great. The setting always struck me as an interesting choice for an RPG too; looking forward to seeing this. _________________ 300 years from today: After the Terracide... the lifeless, charred husk of humanity's homeworld slowly cools in the empty, silent void of a dead star system.

Im hoping the artwork is thought to be at least half as good as the original. I would have used the original artwork had it been available to me, but unfortunately that door is closed to me. I am excited about this, and I am hoping that we are successful in our desire to create this book. There are plans if it is successful that our first supplement for it will be on The Laguna War. _________________ Jonathan M. Thompson

So is Battlefield Press doing both TTA as well as the Double Spiral Wars. To Sci Fi settings. Well they share any rules like starships?

They will share some rules, but starships work a little differently in both universes, so I dont imagine that they will be identical. However, I am sure there will be some similarities since I am designing both sets of starship rules. _________________ Jonathan M. Thompson

The Original TTA Books were built around almost picked for publication Sci fi cover art and the the stories were written to match the way old pulp stories were written for the cover art. So the art did Vary from great that must have been a closed second to bad how was it even in the running for a book cover.
That being said I loved to look at them in JHS and made models of three of the ships out of blocks of carved blocks of pine and balsa with model bits added.
this was one from the old series I made a model of

...and the Barbarian Queen on the Lion Chariot inspired several of my stories.
I'm still always on the look out now when I see them cheap I have 3
What about the related series Galactic Encounters series will we ever see the Marauders of Pherkard _________________ http://s61.photobucket.com/albums/h51/Vondan/

I am not sure what we will see exactly. Our license covers all published material for the TTA Universe, plus some. However, how long we keep the license is entirely up to how sales are doing and if Stewart feels we are doing the work justice. As a fan, I want it to be the best book I can...but sometimes things dont translate from one format to another. Which is one of the reasons the backers are going to be allowed sneak peaks as we go, providing we are successful. _________________ Jonathan M. Thompson

This looks like fun, I still have fond memories of finding several of the TTA books in my school library in about Grade Four or so.
The geometric patterning (almost always black and one other colour) and semi-streamlined shapes of the ships and other vehicles are so distinctive to the TTA books, looking forward to see how this goes.
Oh, and lanshan75 who has just posted right before me smells like canned meat product, if you know what I mean... |

Unfortunately, with less than 24 hours to go, it's not looking promising
Unless a large-ish number of people would like to join us?
Jonathan - are there any plans if it fails, or would that be the signal for the give-up point? |

Really sorry to see this didn't make it. I love the TTA material and would love to see this project happen.
The one problem I have with Kickstarter is finding out about new projects. I haven't been active on these forums for a while due to work commitments and being abroad. I rely on RSS feeds a lot and really wish Kickstarter would provide such feeds for various categories such as RPGs, board games etc.
Sorry I didn't support you guys but I hope you find an alternative solution. _________________ Ejector seat? You're joking!
