Hello Savages!
Intro:
My name is Ron (big surprise), and my first SW experience was at Dragon Con last weekend. I bought the SWEX at Dicehead SIEGE in May of last year and knew about the system before that, but didn't gave it a chance at the table until recently. I played a demo by Vickey of Obatron Productions (thank you ) and that was cool. And then I played a Slipstream game (thank you Nick) at Savage Sunday Night. That hooked me. This is the generic system I wanted GURPS and others of its ilk to be.
My request is this: Is there a one sheet that you would recommend to sell the system to a bunch of beer & pretzel tactically-minded D&D players? It does NOT have to be fantasy. Thanks.
P.S. Is there a place in the forums where newbies to the boards can introduce themselves? That would be great.
P.P.S. I LOVE that this system has such a great community . |

Welcome! Glad to see a convert.
I really like the one sheet called The Moscow Connection.
http://www.peginc.com/games/savage-worlds/downloads/
I ran a one shot of this for my group. It runs great.
I did edit my version of it a bit, instead of mobsters I made the PCs cops investigating a tip, the Chinese Mob (Triads) were making some sort of deal with some Terrorists (generic middle eastern sect). So the players went to investigate and found the Triads dead and the Terrorists trying to start their damaged truck (like it says in the one sheet). The players were found out, a fire fight insued and when it was almost over a Predator appeared and they duked it out with him. It seemed the Triads were selling a bomb to the Terrorists, one of those arm-nukes the Predator aliens have. The Predator came to retrieve it and kill everyone involved. The PCs had to diffuse two bombs at the end, the one from the Triads and the one on the Predator. It was lots of fun!
And whats cool about Savage Worlds is that it was soooo easy to prep for all that.
I have stats for the Predator (i got from the internets that someone else made up), and the cop PCs. I can email them to you if you like. _________________ -DHRDawg

Welcome Ron! Glad to see you found your way to the best RPG on earth! As for a one sheet I would suggest looking through the One Sheet thread on this forum and grab whatever catches your eye. There is a lot to choose from there. Also you might give any of the one sheets in the SWDE a go. I have run/played all of them and they are pretty good. If all else fails throw in zombies! Everything is better with them! _________________ Unstoppable Force Game Designs |

The Wild Hunt is a fun adventure. It has a little of everything. Monsters, magic powers, guns, zombies, skill use, combat... It comes complete even with figure flats for all the characters and monsters.

Welcome, Ron!
If you have the old SWEX, I've had some fun introducing Savage Worlds to players with the Wreck of the Solarah one-sheet in the back of that book. |

Welcome Ron!
I sold my D&D group of 20 years with the Tomb of Terrors.
http://www.peginc.com/shop/the-tomb-of-terrors/
There is a megabundle that includes pre-gens, map tiles, and standups but I'm not seeing it on the site.
PM me and I'll see what I can find for you. |

I strongly suggest you give each new player a copy of the Combat Survival Guide.
http://www.peginc.com/freebies/SWcore/Combat%20Survival%20Guide.pdf
Playing in typical D&D toe to toe style will get you killed. That can give new players a bad taste which they blame on the game. (Same with being stingy with bennies.)
Not having enough bennies to remove shaken, will spoil fun faster than anything.

Envy. I absolutely love the one-sheet Envy. It shows it's age, but it is an amazingly flexible adventure that can be retooled to any setting, ever.
Besides, who doesn't like the idea of shooting zombie cowboys? An idea so awesome, even communists can't hate it. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

Hello Ron,
It was a pleasure meeting you at Dragon Con, and welcome to the forums! I had a lot of fun playing Slipstream with you and I hope we get to game again soon.
If you are trying to sell the system to some of your die hard D&D friends I would recommend staying away from the fantasy genre for an intro game. This will allow them to focus more on the story and the system instead of making mechanical comparisons to their current RPG game.
I recommend trying out “The Eye Of Kilquato” FREE adventure. It's a Pulp Adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones. It does a excellent job of taking the NEW GM step-by-step through most of the basic rules and it includes figure flats and pre-gen characters. It's one of my favorite adventures and I ran it with two different groups when I was first learning the Savage Worlds rules.
As far as the One-Sheets go, I really enjoyed Deadlands: “Scare Crow.” It has a lot going on and it's really easy to stretch out the adventure by adding an encounter during camp one day before they reach the town of Alder Creek. I used the camp scene to add some more creepiness and foreshadowing. Deadlands also has FREE pre-gen characters ready to download for quick play.
Enjoy all the Savage Goodness,

I would recommend playing something other than fantasy if you're introducing D&D gamers to the glory of Savage Worlds. That way you avoid obvious comparisons and expectations. Playing a historical setting like Pirates of the Spanish Main also avoids magic and spellcasting, and all of the comparisons and expectations thereof as well.
Don't forget the free stuff on Triple Ace's web site. Daring Tales of the Sprawl is cyberpunk goodness, complete with pregens and a one sheet:

Daring Tales of the Space Lanes also has pregens and one sheets.

Do whatever you can to keep the game Fast Furious Fun and avoid any conflict over crunch. I've found converting veteran D&D players to a low-crunch game can fall into the crunch-debate-trap if you let it. Just show them that debating how many ounces something weighs is irrelevent ... that you don't need to have every single type of sword as it's own skill, etc.
Show them that it's all about playing and having fun and 90% less accounting and book-keeping!
Have fun and good luck! _________________ Dean: "Ya' know she could be faking."
