When a race has natural weapons, can they still benefit from the Martial Artist and Improved Martial Artist edges?

Am I mistaken that the natural weapons racial ability (Str+d6 damage) grants pretty much the same benefit as those two edges combined?

Pretty much, except that natural weapons are typically obvious and it may not be possible to use natural weapons like claws and fangs to do nonlethal damage.
