You could solve that problem by killing Jackie at the beginning, or as I did you showed up dieing and told them what they had to do (they better take her gun though). Then it's entirely up to the Players what to do and how to do it.

That's a good option. You can also «stat» Jackie and consider her at the same level or at a lesser level than the players. That way, she gets more a second supporting role and the players take the lead. Also, using the DLR version of STone will give a more correct and interesting challenge for the few time they had to face kim directly. The classic version with 12d12+12 die for each stat and every harrowed power at level 4/5 don't give any chance to the PC to win the day. With less harrowed power and more unique servitor power, I think the race will be more balance but still quite a challenge.

I did just that. The posse found her journal through other means, then outside of Lost Angels, they found a gravestone that said the following:

Here Lies
Jackie “Mary Sue” Wells

Jackie was a “plot device”
The GM killed her out of spite
The author never gave her stats
She didn’t even have a hat.

(The last line was a reference to a houserule we have in our group that all Deadlands player characters are required to have a hat. The pictures in the book didn't show her with one, which meant she wasn't cool enough to be alongside the hatted player characters).

And since I Reloaded the Devil's Tower trilogy, I used the Reloaded Stone's stats, which worked out much better.

Classic! Laughing

Exactly what she deserved, IMHO.

That game was truly pretty epic...So much character death, so much canon-annihilating goodness...

Great times! Very Happy

So do they consider any plan where you lose your hat to be a bad plan?

I'm loving the Devil's Tower return trip in Last Sons...

..well in honesty I'm loving Last Sons in general...

..but.. I still want HoE: Reloaded Sad

..speak of HoE.. am I correct in remembering there was only the original Flood that happened when the Lost Angels took on Famine during Armageddon? If so.. am I correctly thinking that the timeline has officially gone off the rails from the one that lead to HoE, if only in degrees? Hitting a few of the numbers (Great Summoning, so far) but different as well? I know Grimme was killed in the HoE timeline, but I don't recall mention of a first Flood before Armageddon?

Generally, yes. It's also a huge deal when they lose their hat as part of a critical failure!

Well you see their hats are obviously their life force and if they lose them they main character plot armor begins to fade away making them far more susceptible to stray bullets and definitely losing the ability to slowly walk away from an explosion without looking back at it.

It was essentially a matter of "no hat, no wild die" as I recall...

Mind you aberrations and fear mangers had no need for hats. Could you imagine, a Mojave Rattler in a bowler?!

Or what about about "I got Stoned and I missed it"

Nah seriously I have no idea what it's about other than Stone is there and there will be a hard challenge with you at odds with him I'm assuming.

That would be kind of awesome.

Didn't want to "derail" the Night Train thread (heh)...

Can't wait 'til you get a chance to read Return to Manitou Bluff.

well lucky for every one that dlr stated all the servitors just nicely. you just can't kill them real easy. the way i'd run deadlands is simple your characters fight become bad ass. you take on one of the servitors besides stone fight him. if you lose your tried if you win your reward is a combat with stone. since obviously killing a servitor puts you on his hit list. if you play him as stone should be played this is an epic opportunity. either your players except the dual and get 6 shots at -2 to their heads until dead or if your character doesn't have the code of honer or stupid hindrances the real fun begins. he can track you in the wilderness, sail across the ocean, blow up whole towns, try to find you using tests of charisma with the shop owners, out drive you in a steam wagon across the flats, or out ride the gun slinger former cavalry officer. theres any number of things you can do to make it memorable but unless they are using leaded dice the campaign ends there. you don't win against stone and my players are fine with that its just a ending to a campaign they know they won because they pissed off stone... it just don't get better then that.

oh yeah back to the original post. i haven't seen a lot of the dead lands reloaded books so i don't know if these are covered but i'd like to see more of the east, colorado, and the whateleys.

We'll be going Back East next year with the next few Trail Guides.

Colorado's fully covered in The Last Sons, along with some Whateley mischief too. A branch of the Whateley family also appears in The Great Northwest Trail Guide.

And there's more of them to come, I'm sure.
