|

Something I've never quite figured out about the Weird West is why there aren't any Deadlands anywhere. After 17 years since the Reckoning, I figured that one would have been made somewhere.
The Reloaded adventure Coffin Rock has the Fear Level in the town going from Fear Level 3 to (if the heroes lose) a Deadland in, what, a couple weeks max? I find it hard to believe that the Reckoners could only raise the Fear Level that quickly in Coffin Rock.
Additionally, some places I would expect to be a Deadland aren't, like Rock Island Prison. It's quite possibly the most terrifying place on earth, but it's only a Fear Level 5. Why hasn't it become a Deadland? What fearmongering could make it any more terrifying than it already is?
Is there something I'm not considering? Why isn't there a single Deadland in the Weird West? _________________ Wild Card Creator: Any PDF. Any Setting. No Extra Cost.

How about Gettysburg? Or, Andersonville Prison?
There's, Ghost Town in The Flood, after Hellstrome's bombing runs. That's a Deadland. Oh, and Jehosephat Valley outside of LA.
And, even beyond those, there are a ton of places that are already on the verge: the Devil's Postpiles, Lost Angels, Gomorrah, and Rock Island Prison that are all Fear Level 5...
Given the example of Rock Island prison, I think the thing keeping it from becoming full-bore Deadland is the fact that so few people know the truth about it. If the lid were blown off about it, and it were left intact, it would no doubt get a very swift promotion.
I think the big thing to remember is that most of the locales from the Marshals' Handbook are large cities or large regions of space. Deadlands are always going to be isolated, more horrific areas within a larger area...y'know, until the bombs drop, that is. _________________ Victory! Yeah, and there are even more true Deadlands than have been mentioned here already.

Well... putting a spoiler tag on this thread might be nice, seeing as we're listing all the Deadlands. _________________ Matthew Cutter

| I was surprised to discover while planning game today that there's a Deadland sitting right in the heart of Boston - the Fire Zone, an area destroyed by an 1872 fire and full of burned undead. |

I think there's probably a Deadland in my apartment - I really must get around to cleaning it one of these days...
(All those Hangin' Judges wandering into the kitchen at 2 AM and drinking the milk right out of the carton gets kind of annoying, too, come to think of it...) _________________ My Blog: Jim - Yes, THAT Jim

Ah, that explains it. I was relying on the Marshal's Handbook, which as you pointed out, only describes large cities and large regions. I don't believe there's a single Deadland listed in there, which led me to the conclusion that there were no Deadlands in the Weird West.

Had I known that there actually were Deadlands to list, I would have done that. It's added now.

I don't have time to go through my books and list them for you, but they're in The Flood, The Last Sons, and possibly also a few spots described the Trail Guides. _________________ Matthew Cutter
