A couple of minor spoilers here...
So...
I've seen a number of places where earlier adventures are mentioned from time to time in The Flood, and I can remember most of them, but there are a couple of references that I can't quite place - both of them involving members of the Explorers' Society. I like the Explorers' Society and have used them frequently in my games ever since the first RVC book came out, so I'm' surprised I missed these. I'm not sure whether or not they actually appeared as adventures in prior publications, but if they did, I'd be glad if someone can direct me to the right places.
The first reference says that Lacy O'Malley "accompanied a group of adventurers on a search for missing Explorer Nicholas Trevalyn" and that during that scenario Trevalyn (who I seem to remember was originally named "Trevalyan" - some abomination must have amputated his second "a!") revealed information about the Twilight Legion.
The second is less likely to be a reference to something in a previous book, but I still wanted to check on it: it's in one of the pieces of dialogue for Roderick Pennington-Smythe. At the end of the fourth plot point, if asked about the Agents and the Texas Rangers, he mentions that he once thought everyone should know about the monsters, but his mind was changed by an incident in Kansas involving a shape-shifter.
Were either of these scenarios covered in more detail in any previous books? If so, where can I get the lowdown on them? I'd like to have as much background as possible when I get to the points involving them in the two Deadlands games I'm running.
(This second incident is only really important to me because in a recent game I've been running, set in `79, before I'd had a chance to read The Flood I'd already introduced Smythe and had him announce that they were going to try once again to get their Bestiary of North America printed. So - in that campaign at least - he has yet to go through the ordeal with the shape-changer. The good news, though, is that both he and the posse happen to be very close to Kansas right now, so I'd kind of like to have it happen in the game. Yes, I am an extreme continuity freak. Aaahhh, the wonders of OCD...) _________________ My Blog: Jim - Yes, THAT Jim
